I came away encouraged.
A Back was better than I expected. Lynch and Searcy look they can be pretty good once they get the blocking and where to go. You can see the physical ability. Andrews is good and Snodddy should be able to pick up where he left off. Ike is a good system player. Inject a...
Anyone remember the block he had in the Sun Bowl vs USC out in space. Pulled, engaged his man high, worked his head to the outside hip as the defender disengaged and then went low and cut the guy before he could release. It was perfect from a technical standpoint.
Guy just executes.
True. Couple things about that though. First did other teams qbs log significant minutes as subs last year?
If not why did ours and theirs not? Would you not say JT was still relatively inexperienced? I would.
At least in that one rep Kyle looks good for a tr-fr. I liked the look of his lower body....tree trunk legs, wide hips, big butt. If he consistently plays with that kind of leverage and pad level he can develop into a good one!
That same quickness can make a great blocking AB....if he wants it badly enough. That's what'll get him on the field anyway. I don't mind the year sitting out because that position takes awhile to learn. Hopefully he's not on the scout team and can do his learning this year.
He's clearly working his tail off. That's all anyone can ask.
Plus he's a good student/class act off the field. Super easy kid to root for!
With his size/athleticism it's a great sign that he's understanding how much work it takes to be a great player at this level--and that has a burning...
Really to turn a corner a kid has to do it in games during the season.
IMO, it's better than not to hear positive stuff from practices about guys, and it may or may not translate into actual in-game performance.
Would be nice if Kallon can keep on improving though!
The fact we are hard to stop on 3rd & 4th and short tells me we are plenty physical. I do agree our O is more physical on the OL than in the early years.
Thing is if he pulls this off it will be the greatest triumph of his young life. Hell even if he fell just short but learned how to be a good student that is transformative.
I think he ends up better off at GT as long as he gets the degree and learns how to work as a student.
Would play more...
Depends on a lot of things really:
--How close the team is this year...do they play for each other? Do they never give up like last year? What is the psyche?
--How hard do the guys work to get better?
--How lucky will we be with injuries to key positions, turnovers, good/bad calls, etc. Will we...
Is it that Noble is out of shape or is it that he's just grown out of being a defensive back? His physicality has stood out to me so I'm kind of hoping he's beasted-out and can bring the pain as an LB. Should be a good covering LB too.
Agree ball security and blocking are key.
Also BB needs to make a presnap read on the meshpoint to be on same page as QB.
The yardage will be there. But drives are killed with missed blocks, fumbles, and not getting yds by missing the meshpoint read (also can cause fumble).
A possible negative with the Roof philosophy vs HUNH is that HUNH seeks to tire out a defense so it's easy to score in the red zone at the end of drives. If you use scorched earth vs HUNH a la Roof you may not be able to stiffen in the red zone and wear your D out. Seems we saw some of that last...
When Roof was first hired as DC my initial reaction was shock and worry. Like many fans I just remembered Woody Dantzler scoring again and the year we were #1 in O and #100 in D.
Then I set that aside did some more objective examination of Roof's record and scheme.
I found at GT (ranked 88th...
I think this is probably pretty accurate and is expressed very well.
To add, with recruiting classes people like to speak in terms of getting good PLAYERS when really what one gets is PROSPECTS.
IMO this latest class has better prospects than Johnson's other classes. Whether these prospects...
I agree Andy Mac was a great hire. I also really like the Brian Cook and Walkowski / Coach Ry hires. Maybe a coincidence but our OL got better with a return to a dedicated OT coach in Ry.
I was skeptical of Lamar Owens and Joe Speed but Owens IMO has really improved as an A backs Coach and...
To what extent do you think PJ has had a learning curve at GT?
Since it's the off season I thought I'd pose this question. I am not sure what my own answer is and and thought I'd post and see what other folks think. Here is what I've been thinking about:
First consider Paul Johnson's history...
