In my defense I was basing my take on the box score listed on the team site for that sixth game that had him batting .280 and hitting his 2nd and 3rd doubles of the year instead of the 5 on the year. Using that info he would be a very pedestrian part of the lineup compared to the big numbers...
Ask Wally Pipp what that feels like. Or Drew Bledsoe. And the list goes on and on. It's not like he was tearing the cover off the ball before he got hurt. That being said I hope he uses it as motivation to come back this year and have a great season.
I'm pretty sure everyone drafted on the first two days is gone. I think Borden comes back so he can play in the field and show another strong year at the plate. I think his late round draft was simply a team taking a flyer on him based on one year with the bat. Another good year plus some skills...
So while we are thinking about who we are losing let's take a look at who the possible replacements will be. At first base I think it will be Sabbathia if he is as good as advertised. At second it will probably be Borden coming back to improve his draft stock. At short we have several options...
It seems to me that we lose about that many players to either graduation or the draft most years. Obviously not that many in the first ten rounds. This past year was an anomoly. We had almost the whole team back. But keep in mind we only had four position players drafted (plus our centerfielder...
I don't think the top rated recruits are worried about other players being offered at their position. The top athletes are confident in their abilities. If a recruit is worried about their minutes before they even arrive on campus, they probably weren't going to see the court much anyway. The...
I realize we use metrics a lot in the development of the pitchers but I have no inside info that we don't emphasize location or pitching to a batter's weakness. Do you have an inside source that claims that to be the case? Or are you just speculating based on the results? We can all agree the...
Seems to me he was at more of a three quarter arm angle before. Now it looks like he has dropped down to more of a sidearm approach. In the reply section of the tweet it says he has changed his arm slot back to where he had it coming out of high school. Hopefully, he comes back to Tech with...
I prefer to think that their success in the summer leagues is because of the coaching they have been getting at Tech and hopefully that carries over into next year. Also, if I'm not mistaken, most of those summer leagues use wooden bats and that might account for some of the improvement as well.
I'm sure Deleo expected to play more but to say Reid was error prone is not quite accurate. He is listed with only one error on the year which is the same Deleo had in many fewer chances. Also Reid had 16 HRs and 63 RBI and he hit .333. That bat wasn't leaving the lineup. He also struck out much...
Aren't most of the Notre Dame starters already transferred in from other schools? Is baseball like the other major sports where you only get one "free" transfer after which you have t sit out a year if you transfer again to another D1 school? I may have that wrong but I think that is how it is...
Agree with others who have said it's a guards game but I will also add that you never know what will happen a few years down the road with injuries, transfer portal, etc. We would have loved to see a few extra guards with skills available this year wouldn't we? The women's game has much more...
I was going to say the same thing. With rosters needing to be trimmed down significantly for next season it would seem to be something in the best interest of the players to be informed as soon as possible in order to catch on with another team. Additionally, if Vandy wants to find a few players...
Speaking as a parent of an athlete that was on full scholarship but left school before completing his degree I can tell you he 100% regrets that choice and wishes he had stayed and completed his degree. He didn't go to Tech but still wishes he had that degree in his back pocket before moving on.
Not sure if Link and FSU already have an understanding but it is interesting the FSU hasn't hired anyone yet nor have there been any media leaks of anyone else interviewing. But Notre Dame has some deep pockets. If the guy Clemson hired from Michigan got a million per year what does Link end up...
Any idea what percentage of players take advantage of that? For a lot of guys after bouncing around the minors for 5 or 6 years or longer going back to school for a year or two to get your degree isn't as easy as it sounds. Especially when you have to endure the rigors of Tech. After several...
what you say is true, but there are also several instances where coming back drastically improves your draft slot if your performance improves. Fortunately at programs like Tech there is plenty of national exposure should you show out. In one year Borden went from a platoon infielder to a major...
