You can play a single gap assignment while not shooting the gaps. I played this both in high school and college. What I have seen is our DL gets pushed backwards or washed down the line. Our D did just enough to win yesterday. Since Roof has been our DC, we are 2-2 vs the mutts.
I understand the frustration but at the same time Roof's defense stopped uga after a bad turnover to begin the 3rd and then got the TO in the 4th to give our O favorable field position. He's definitely got to shore up the 3rd down.
Look where we rank in just conference games alone. We are bottom third of the ACC in pretty much all defense stats. It's what I expected given who we were bringing back. The last couple of weeks the guys seem to gain back heir confidence. Roof was left little depth from the 34 experiment and he...
Look at a ton of the teams we are playing this year as well. They have quite a few SRs on their starting lines both OL and DL. Replacing Gamble will be a challenge but our depth at DT is improving year over year. This is where we have been the weakest. The best defenses we had during CPJ time...
When was he coming on board? I imagine he thought he was going to be at Oregon state until late December or early January. I can't imagine he gets too involved until he is finally here.
VPI has 3 starting seniors on that DL. Next year they will be young and talented but a lot of teams we faced this year had a good amount of upperclassmen on their starting lines. For 3 true fr to go into that environment and perform at that level makes me very optimistic.
I briefly looked it up but duke has faced Tech and Army this year as well as WF. All of those teams had less than 16 attempts during those games. Kinda skews the stats. Also, before they played us I looked over their stats and if I remember correctly a lot of their sacks came from LBs and DBs. I...
I'm in complete agreement with you. Our D was playing fantastic the whole game till the middle of the 4th and from them on we were just trying to coast to victory. Kept everything in front of us and what not. D played great in the first half and benefitted from the O hanging onto the ball so...
I just don't think Evans is as dynamic of a QB as some make him out to be. There is a reason why they are handicapping him during 3rd downs with throwing screens. Also, the Pitt game he threw a ton of fade/jump balls. He didn't really show a good deep ball all game against us. That fake screen...
We punched them in their mouths. I honestly think they thought they would just show up. Hard for a team not to just turn it on unless you have Alabama on your jersey.
It was playing like it because they were trying to keep everything in front of them and not let VPI get a quick score. The game was out of contention by the middle of the 4th.
To me a bunch of those metrics fall on both the personnel and scheme. Sacks and the havoc metrics in particular will be one of those stats that have this two depth variable. I'd be interested to see what percent of defensive play calls were blitzes. Probably very low. That deals with scheme. But...
It was extremely frustrating to watch. Counting the pick safety. That's two of our INTs that we gave right back to them. We have to play a clean game against UNC.
This. Also, Duke just executed really well in the second half. Had our D on its heals and made some great play calls. It is just any given day one team can perform at a high level. That very well may be the best Duke performs all year. I know it happened against us but look how our offense...
They may have slowed down in the 4th quarter on the last couple of possessions but they were still snapping it the whole 3rd with 20+ seconds on the play clock. The same amount as the first half. Clemson was not on the night we played but they really haven't been all year except against...
