I think that they want out, but just don't want to pay the tab. The suit is part of a strategy to annoy ACC into negotiating a lower exit fee. It is sort of an "underpants gnome" strategy tho' - there doesn't seem to be a direct connect between their current actions and their ultimate goal.
As much as I despise uGAg, there's nothing worse than a Judas. They're willing to line their own pockets burning down the house in the process. Screw 'em...
Well, it's been reported that Swofford made several trips to Tally to get their buy-in. Why would those trips have been necessary if he was playing Lone Ranger? I think that their only chance of winning in court would be if they can prove some major malfeasance on ACC's part. Otherwise the...
Possibly, but I don't see it. UNC does come with a rabid in-state fan base and locks up 3 media markets(CLT, GSO & RDU). I'm not sure UVA does any of that. VT at least has the fan base, but not the media market. I think SEC wants the rivalries based on Sankey's recent statements.
I'm guessing that any decent law firm that was requested to file such a lame attempt at getting out of a contract has probably gotten a general release from their client. Of course, it is Florida....
Nothing about this had made any sense for quite a while. They've filed a lawsuit that they can't win - their only hope is that there's something that ACC wants to hide that would come out in discovery and they'll get a negotiated reduction in the cost of exiting. If this goes to trial, it will...
I think the numbers involved are minimal(2-3/yr) while the impact on the FB team is significant. I'm clueless regarding the internal issues PAC faces, but I think it's a worthwhile trade-off. When an athlete can graduate in 3-4 years, it's pretty obvious that they can put in the work.
Probably true. We'll never know, but I think if F$U had taken the high road and worked within the ACC, that some form of unequal revenue sharing could have been worked out. They already got "keep what you kill" for postseason. IMO, some form of "pay for performance" could have been done...
IF the ACC loses FSU and Clemson, I think it soldiers on. I'm not sure that UNC and UVA go anywhere - I just don't see what they add. If the ACC does lose 4 schools, then I think the most likely outcome is a merger with the Big 12(and possibly what's left of the PAC) - some groundwork is...
We need a commissioner with the stones to tell the Tobacco Road Mafia to pound sand. I doubt Phillips is the guy. Funny that for so long, the ACC has been driven by the TRM basketball programs and now it's a ringleader of that bunch that wants out.
This is a couple days old, but it may turn out to be an excellent example of why you let your lawyer do the talking. Alford just admitted that it's all about the money. I think that he may well regret those words when he hears them repeated in court...
I'm sure that there's some "good conduct" language in the binding documents. Before these other issues came to light, I thought ACC would likely countersue and include F$U maliciously damaging the brand.
Much will depend on the judge - in civil trials, the judge has a lot of leeway in selecting the matters to be tried. I haven't read the filings(and don't plan to), but lawyers often throw in everything they can come up with and the judge gets to sort that out. I've read that this suit includes...
