  1. Jahmyr Gibbs named 2nd team AP All American - All-Purpose Player

Because he's going to the best possible place to torment the dwags?
  2. Roof to Oklahoma

Interesting read from free 247 article: “Ted is one of the most experienced coordinators and one of the best teachers in all of college football, and he's done it in some of the premier conferences in the sport—the SEC, Big Ten and ACC," Venables said. "He has a tremendous wealth of knowledge...
  3. Can we stay competitive in the NIL era?

Took awhile. He did have a big turn in year 3. I am willing that in addition to being a better game day coach than CGC that their SOS was way below GT's SOS this year. Problem is GT's schedule isn't going to let up next year so CGC is toast. Hopefully next guy can keep a lot of guys out of the...
  4. GT hires Chip Long as new OC/QBs Coach

Like everyone else I have no idea how OC Chip Long will work out. On paper at least there some things that suggest he is a decent fit for GT: Has experience at schools where academics are important (ND, Tulane). Has a reputation as a good recruiter RPO-based scheme will not require a radical...
  5. Griffin is NOT now in the portal

Also Pendley who is quite young was playing well prior to getting hurt. I don't think Keion White was ever himself...bad luck with non-football broken leg after taking his commitment. Does have another year left.
  6. Griffin is NOT now in the portal

K Cigmalia was good. I know others may disagree, but as a guy who played LB in college I liked Ayinde (who we get for another year). I thought he improved as the year went on. Biggest problems on defense IMO were no pass rush and secondary giving up bombs routinely.
  7. Mostly “Fire Geoff Collins”, some reminiscing, maybe bourbon or other distractions

Yup. You choose a dog and you are stuck with them.
  8. Mostly “Fire Geoff Collins”, some reminiscing, maybe bourbon or other distractions

Praying that TStan was prescient. IMO some course correction is needed regarding gameday coaching/game planning. Here is from when he was hired: "What Collins does have, though, is something that few FBS coaches have in their first deal with a school – a seven-year term. The other six...
  9. Mostly “Fire Geoff Collins”, some reminiscing, maybe bourbon or other distractions

IIRC Collins' contract was set up the way it was because of the expectations of both T Stan and Collins that it was going to take awhile to build the program they way they wanted. Based on the roster I expected 3-4 wins this season. After we grabbed a bunch of good looking players in the portal...
  10. 2021 ACC and Competition News

Thinking Dan Mullen to NFL, if not possibly VT.
  11. Mostly “Fire Geoff Collins”, some reminiscing, maybe bourbon or other distractions

Collins IMO is a mixed bag. He recruits well, looks after the total person, and has built a culture where the kids play hard. On the other hand—and as opposed to Bobby Ross, whose teams even in his losing years just seemed to always hang around and be in the game—Collins' teams seem to find a...
  12. Ajc says Yates might start today due to a Sims injury

BC now 1.5 point favorites. Folks who say Yates gives us a better chance to win will get to see if their theory is correct.
  13. Linebacker Grades

DL can make LB job much easier via disruption, holding point of attack, narrowing run fits, occupying extra blockers in pass pro. Makes it easier to navigate trash and get to the football. Watch Georgia's defense. Problem with our OL and DL transfers has been injuries/not playing (AC Clayton...
  14. Linebacker Grades

Did they follow keys, execute run fits, coverage assignments, defeat blocks, get selves/others lined up pre-snap.How fast did they react, did they take false steps, bad angles. Usually graded internally on play by play breakdown of film. Can have big effect on plays that don't show up in box scores
  15. Jeff Sims

A QB's supporting cast matters and it matters A LOT. Anyone remember VT QB Logan Thomas? He had a great freshman campaign and it looked like VT was SET at QB. Problem was that VT had awesome recievers, an excellent, veteran OL, and really good RBs that year. When the supporting cast mostly...
  16. #VTvsGT Homecoming Postgame Thread

Need more rush threats. And just more mature, experienced DL. Pressure gets home when the OL has all it can handle from DL. Not enough disruptors. Fiew TFLs. Scheme only goes so far. Why rebuilding a line takes time.
  17. Strength and Conditioning?

Factors: Technique Weight/Size Quickness Strength Flexibility Want-to/emotional maturity/motor Gassed vs Fresh (depth, fitness,# of plays) Understanding of role/scheme/etc. IN GENERAL a senior is bigger, stronger, faster, has better weight and technique, has better chemistry, knows their job...
  18. #VTvsGT Homecoming Postgame Thread

Good: 1. Sims is a good player. So is Gibbs. 2. Defense played mediocre 2nd half, (instead of putrid like 1st half). 3. Team did not quit. Bad: 1. Holding call on McGowen's excellent downfield block. I thought the pick call was reasonable though...McGowen has to be subtle there. 2. Busted...
  19. Non-player rumor from UF

Never heard of a D-1 HC leaving to be a D-1 coordinator. Seems absurd unless said HC is fired.
  20. Coach Dave Patenaude

    True well beyond football.
