  1. Week 0 Line

I agree, maybe. Because this is pretty much exactly what happened at Duke when Santucci was their DC. With the same players they improved dramatically, especially in scoring D. Which, btw, is the only D stat that counts. But we'll see soon enough.
  2. Week 0 Line

I'm not sure what I'm supposed to do. I guess I should comment on the … oh, now I see. Well, of course, I got it from the first and I agree. I believe Tech has a decent chance to beat the Crimnoles. I think it will come down to our run game, especially how well Haynes does. If he runs well...
  3. Uncle Lou predicts seven wins for GT this year

I agree with most of what he says on the basis of what we had last year. The O will be e repeat, imho, with perhaps a better year from King and Haynes. The WRs are right good country players too. I also think he's right about King being a gunslinger. That can lead to trouble, but it is also...
  4. Article on Brent Key

I agree with this and I would also say that as Tech got better last year it was because they (well … Buster) decided to run the ball more. Tech looked a lot like Army toward the end and I'm betting we'll look that way again if the OL jells. I know I sound like a broken record on this aspect of...
  5. Article on Brent Key

Listen to that. I just read an article that mentioned the undefeated 1939 (I think) Dartmouth football team. They were invited to the Rose Bowl (No, really, they were) and they refused to go. The team voted against it and the administration backed them 100%. Their prs at the time gave the...
  6. Blue Chip Ratio

Yessss. My favorite on this: Yeah, that's it. It is true that some high school players can be separated out as pretty good. It is not true that a) this translates into exceptional performance at the next level, b) that all exceptional players are identified in their senior year in high...
  7. Article on Brent Key

The metric should be to win as many games as we can with the talent we can recruit. Always, always, it is recruiting to a very different environment for winning in college football today. It appears that Coach Key is succeeding at that at about an O'Leary level •cough* Philo *cough* so far...
  8. Pre-Fall Depth Chart

Yes. My favorite here on D was Fred Dean. He played at about 230, soaking wet and with weights in his shoes. He used to line up outside ahoulder of the opposing DTs, get down in his stance, and start going, "Barooom, barooom, barooom" then he would make a noise like he was scratching off at the...

Yes. I've long said here that the best of the many subjective ways to evaluate high school players is the "star system" and that we'd be best advised to ignore the numbers associated with the stars. That way you can compare teams by their average stars instead of their "ranking" based on an...
  10. 2024 Football Portal

Well … mainly because he really made a splash at DE at Marist. Check his films or his stats: he looks better at a rush position then as a TE, imho. Tech is thinner at his potential position than at TE as well. He'll get to the field sooner where the depth isn't as great. But like I said...
  11. 2024 Football Portal

Well … we know what the scout sites say he wants to play. My guess is that we don't know what the young man would like to play. That place would be where he can get on the field the fastest, imho. That'll be for the coaches to decide. After the dogfight, that is.
  12. 2024 Football Portal

One disagreement. I don't think Harpring will stay at TE. Imho, he 's too valuable at DE to put him anywhere else. TEs we have and pretty good ones too. DEs who can cut a 4.6 40 at 230lbs, not so much. He's potentially another Coleman Rudolph. I'm guessing that the coaches will fight over him...
  13. Regional: Ga Tech, UNCW, UGa, Army

To be more exact: "Good pitchin' will beat good hittin' any day of the week" Jay Hanna "Dizzy" Dean, no date.
  14. Bill Walton (look at this!)

I was sorry to hear that Walton had died so (relatively) early on. I wish he had not had so many injuries. When he was young he was one of the best centers I've ever seen. Why, you ask? Look at this and tell me how you get a shot over him when he's 6'11" and can jump a full yard above the court...
  15. I’m making a documentary about the 2014 season for its 10th anniversary

Yeah, this is true. If Tech had won against FSU, I continue to think that we would have won the playoffs. Nobody in the country was up to stopping the O at the last. Also, nobody else in the playoffs had seen it before and the personnel on that team were uniquely suited to running the spread...
  16. I’m making a documentary about the 2014 season for its 10th anniversary

As I think I said at the time, Pitt must have been convinced that Tech had a witch doctor on the sidelines casting spells on their whole team. I've never seen a breakdown like that happen so very, very fast. I was stunned as I watched. Pleased too, of course.
  17. Your First GT QB

I actually wrote Bud Carson before Dudish's sophomore season and told him to put in the veer. I swear to hits day that if Tech had put in a veer with Dudish at QB we would have waltzed to a 10 win season and perhaps the MNC. He was perfect to that O; the only comparison would have been Warrne Moon.
  18. Your First GT QB

Well, for me it was Billy Lothridge. Laws, that was awhile ago. I was in high school and started watching "Vespers" as a lot of people called Bobby Dodd's Sunday film review. I loved Lothridge. He did everything, If ever there was someone who deserved the Heisman, it was him. I suppose it was...
  19. Re-Watched some old wins on YouTube....

Yes. It was the 2004 "Boise (Humanitarian) Bowl" on the blue fake grass in the freeze. That was the game wide P. J. Daniels set the NCAA record for rushing in a bowl game—311 yards. He tore them up one side and down the other. Tech won 52 - 10, largely because they couldn't tackle P. J. Great game.
  20. Dontae to Giants Camp

Well … maybe. I'd like SF to keep him forever, but, if they don't, I hope the Falcons get a shot at him. What he needs is a team that has a half-decent OL and will give him 15 - 20 carries a game. I can guarantee that the team the does that - and the Falcons fit the bill - will find themselves...
