  1. QB battle

That was von Clausewitz on one of the early message boards, second-guessing the first option coach, Napoleon.
  2. Tennessee Game 1

Sounds like the Dodd days are here again.
  3. QB battle

Never. If my guy is not in there then the coach is wrong. That's how a message board works, you know.
  4. QB battle

That Vandy guy is the kind I wouldn't want to play very often. But this guy is pretty good, but may not have the experience to deal with various blocking options and cut blocking. Be interesting to see though.
  5. QB battle

They may stack the middle, but unless they have at least one outstanding -- all-SEC caliber -- linebacker, they will get chewed up. Whoever is QB doesn't have to be a great passer. Stack the box and get D-backs one-on-one with our wideouts who can go make a play and in-the-area passes will go big.
  6. Ran into Coach Owens

You'll get more information from a message board than from an assistant coach in a grocery store in the off-season. More entertaining, too.
  7. Tennessee fans already starting to talk about the 2017 GT-Tennessee game

What are you all upset about? It it's just a knockoff of the opening scenes from Blazing Saddles. A bad knockoff, but still.
  8. ProJackets Update

Good story. I would pay to see Shaq (Mason) play basketball. I hope he is one of the lineman who can beat the odds and have a long and monied career in the NFL.
  9. QB battle

That would be the one. He graduated, I believe, but never played much after the first year and not a whole lot then. But my memory is pretty thin there. Seems to me one of the marks of a maturity in the program and Johnson's recruiting can be traced to his A back recruitment over the years.
  10. QB battle

If I recall right, Johnson was scrambling with a lot of recruits so late in the process -- new coach, new school, new offensive scheme -- and lost a couple, including a QB, who just didn't fit his option scheme. There was a teeny weeny RB out of Texas who led the world in rushing and I think GT...
  11. QB battle

I am not even close to a "recruiting analyst" but I will play one on the board. I saw Washington in person 2-3 times a year and every other game that was televised, and recorded all of them for playback. Which I did faithfully until my Direct TV DVR blew up. I do not know who this "scouting...
  12. QB battle

    That would explain it.
  13. How Much Longer Will Paul Johnson Coach?

Not to be mean, but Beamer worked until he was 70. He coached until he was 67. Which oddly is a reason for folding the tent.
  14. Tennessee fans already starting to talk about the 2017 GT-Tennessee game

Odd, but "Northeast Stinger" does not seem Scots or Sicilian, though you can hold a righteous grudge.
  15. ProJackets Update

I fear you are right. His interviews swung the draft people and they managed to overlook his GT problems because he performed well late in his career and was humble and apologetic while stepping up to acknowledge them. That card has now been played and there's just one to the deck.
  16. How Much Longer Will Paul Johnson Coach?

This. Bowden's finish was particularly distressing, maybe because he came across as such a good guy.
  17. Here's a vote for the ACC (Atlantic, anyway)

A caveat: this is from something called "Fanrag" a "sports network"? but it seems a very defensible contention. I am not necessarily sold on NC State and Wake's resurgence, but FSU and Clemson is a heck of an opening bid. Even backhanded, however, another vote for the ACC's football strength...
  18. How Much Longer Will Paul Johnson Coach?

Johnson is not going anywhere, or to another job anyway, though it is possible that one morning he awakes and finds the fire is flickering a bit. If that happens then all bets are off. He is just not the hanging-around type. So: forget Navy and Jasper. What Monken has done at a down-and-out...
  19. How Much Longer Will Paul Johnson Coach?

    Not long enough.

You have a problem articulating your feelings, do you?
