  1. Lucas Johnson (highlights)

That's leaving the bank vault unguarded and expecting Willie Sutton to settle for a ten dollar bill.
  2. Lucas Johnson (highlights)

I mean you got kissed and that's about the story.
  3. What if CPJ had Bama or Climpsuns players...?

The reason probably is simple. Tech has fewer to offer. Meaning fewer GT players quit or flunked out and lost their scholarships. Every coach holds one or two back for walk-on grants as a reward, and maybe one for a late commit. Otherwise Tech is issuing them all. Solution is to stop that...
  4. Lucas Johnson (highlights)

Passing for five yards is like the prom queen kissing you on the head.
  5. The CPJ Bowl

Yes. I think I said it before, but I thought Tech began to slide when Monken left for Statesboro. For some reason I really want to see him win that award. His comments following the game yesterday were almost Dodd-like in praising Navy.
  6. The CPJ Bowl

I did like the Johnson-like call late to set up the Navy win. After two triple option teams playing for almost 55 minutes with what appeared to be about two being called, both times kept by the QB, Army pitched it on 3rd down to put the ball at the half yard line. Great call and well done...
  7. What if CPJ had Bama or Climpsuns players...?

Not a problem. Incidentally I checked the Clemson depth chart for the Alabama game, and they list a total of nine wide receivers. So yes, in a blowout they might play them all. There are about 4-5 names you might recognize as playing though.
  8. What if CPJ had Bama or Climpsuns players...?

Clemson doesn't routinely play near that many. In a beatdown, yes because Swinney is getting his bench all the playing time he can. (Against Miami he used 71 players and was three deep at QB in the fourth quarter.) But routinely it is rotation of 3-4, but they are outstanding receivers with...
  9. The CPJ Bowl

Again, so what? Put him where you please. If he can't play pass and catch, it is an exercise in playing coach. Our problem is passing, period. Thomas was supposedly 5-11 -- I will believe it if you will -- and did okay throwing from behind center. No world beater, but enough. And his whole...
  10. The CPJ Bowl

Why? not sure it works that way. He's going to get the ball in exactly the same spot. If he was further back it probably was becaue his first couple of steps are extraordinary and he's on the QB too fast for the mesh.We have done that before, too.
  11. The CPJ Bowl

Well, you know what? It don't make no never mind if you spread 10 across the field with motion if your QB can't finish it. The formation makes no difference, it is still a game of throw and catch. The first part we can't do.
  12. The CPJ Bowl

actually the true single wing -- and what they are doing is not -- is an excellent passing offense. (See Johnny Majors, Tennessee.) Both these teams have run out of the shotgun one way or the other all year, and what i see sometime is the diamond Tech tried and discarded a few years back. Adds...
  13. Jay Jones Transferring

Did I miss the part about the kid having bad grades?
  14. Any ideas of where CPJ will head with the new AC

Hate to be a killjoy but didn't they try this before and not much changed so Johnson went back to working with them?
  15. Jay Jones Transferring

Too many men on the field? But I do remember the occasion. They needed one of those rolling counters that marks off distances along streets and highways.
  16. Any ideas of where CPJ will head with the new AC

Now, that was on the edge of a gimme. But I like it.
  17. Jay Jones Transferring

now why would we assume that? Seems to me Tech's football players cope with the load, at least by graduation rates. College and sports, anywhere, is tough,
  18. GT - competing at a higher level

I don't know about your conclusion. I do know that using Lee Corso as a sounding board and expecting Herbstreit-type analysis is the real definition of insanity.
  19. Jay Jones Transferring

Well, okay. But: 5-7 says otherwise on our end.
  20. Jay Jones Transferring

I think everybody wishes the kid the best -- and I still think it is criminal to take a year's playing time away for an 18-yer-old decision but the coaches will always win this one -- and if he can't win the competition, or didn't win it, then he is doing what is best for him. I would do the...
