New recruit Petty $800,000 per year NIL

My hypothetical "poll" wasn't intended to reflect reality - just a gauge of where different fans view their personal pain points for player compensation. And it was sort of a joke.

    FSU game thread

It's better than most of the material I've seen from writers and podcasters who cover us exclusively. We should hire the guy as an analyst.

    Game 1 Media #FSUvsGT

Thanks, but you may have missed @Tech Lawyer's post #84 earlier, and the ensuing discussion.

You’re the HC: In percentages how would you divide NIL Money Pool by position group to equal 100%?

I'm assuming this is a hypothetical situation where coaches and their staff actually have their own NIL budget and allocation ability. Right now the school is prohibited from doing so. It has to be player-ability driven, followed by position value. That's pretty much the way it seems to be...

    FSU game thread

They're big, but our projected OL starters only run about 10# lighter on average, so our DL shouldn't be intimidated. Zeke and Lockett are kinda big dudes too. I'm more concerned about FSU's experienced seniors being good at run blocking.

    NIL for Buzz

I see no reason why Buzz couldn't be paid as an employee of GTAA, but they couldn't also be an S-A under current NCAA rules. And if paid by the AA, it can't be considered NIL, as currently direct NIL payments from the school are prohibited (or is that just for S-As? Not sure.) A lot of these...

New recruit Petty $800,000 per year NIL

Doubt NIL will bring parity but it could help create a new tier of schools with a multitude of blue-chip players. Watch out for SMU.

    Conference Realignment

It's up to the courts now and they tend to move at a snail's pace. Much respect for coming on here and admitting you had the wrong take on this.

New recruit Petty $800,000 per year NIL

Which would you prefer – GT possibly left behind in the future because we can’t keep up, or left behind today because we won’t play the NIL game? I’ll take us failing after giving it our best shot over failing because we didn’t try.

New recruit Petty $800,000 per year NIL

I was referencing the increasing pressure to push money into programs in the interest of winning. There isn't a moral equivalence. One is against the rules, one isn't.

    FSU game thread

Out of curiosity, I checked one of FSU’s free boards covering upcoming opponent analysis here: Opponent: GT Pretty solid, balanced, and insightful analysis from a rival site. Many of their fan's comments to that analysis respected us as a tough out, with most still expecting to win. However, I...

New recruit Petty $800,000 per year NIL

I would argue that a) we already passed the threshold to a chaotic system, and it's just getting worse (which will continue due to recent court cases), and b) the incentive (financial pressure) for fans and boosters to throw more money at their programs in the interest of winning has been around...

New recruit Petty $800,000 per year NIL

Youth is certainly a factor, but going pro in your 20s doesn't seem to be a barrier to blowing through your earnings either. I think one of our alums has even started a business for financial counseling of pro athletes, many of whom came from backgrounds with no grounding in how to handle an...

New recruit Petty $800,000 per year NIL

Ok so this is meant to be entirely tongue in cheek, but all this discussion about huge NIL amounts got me thinking. Perhaps we should have a poll for the pain threshold at which each of us thinks an elite recruit or player’s total compensation is out of line with the sustainability of CFB. My...

New recruit Petty $800,000 per year NIL

If your concern is over the unsustainability of this level of compensation and its implications for CFB in the future, I am in general agreement. I started a thread on this very topic a couple of years ago. I include coaching salaries in that discussion as well. I'm not at the point where I'm...

New recruit Petty $800,000 per year NIL

How quick some of us are to rush to judgment about misplaced values and to extrapolate that to society in general. It’s reasonable to assume that large NIL amounts are primarily funded by a few extremely wealthy individuals. It's also reasonable to assume that these very wealthy individuals...

New recruit Petty $800,000 per year NIL

I think there’s a tendency for engineering types like me to rationalize value based on tangible attributes. For example, thinking an item should be worth X dollars based on Y manufacturing costs + Z profit margin. If we encounter something priced like that plus some ridiculously large extra...

New recruit Petty $800,000 per year NIL

I recently listened to an FSU podcast with Kelly Quinlan as their guest. According to KQ, FSU set the NIL rate, but GT got a "hometown discount". Take that for what it's worth. Also, it is very much The Tech Way
