Where we might lose Coach Collins.

Fair enough. But Petit was not Mr Personality. Funny. Thinking about this, reminds me of the old Naval Armory. We would have to jump out of the shower when the toilet flushed to avoid getting scalded. The athletic facilities were ... decrepit.

Where we might lose Coach Collins.

It was absolutely talked about. President Petit was just developing the research program that we have now. He had zero interest in an athletics program. Kim King along with influential alumni demanded he commit to the athletics programs or they would petition for his removal at GT president.

Where we might lose Coach Collins.

This doesn't tell the whole story. You should have seen the condition of the football program in 1980. Dreadful. It was so bad that the Hill (Joe Petit) wanted to end football at Tech. The fact that just a few years later, Tech was in a bowl game was a miracle. I know Curry has a lot of...

Where we might lose Coach Collins.

Look at what coaches pay for a house. Pruitt and Jones both paid $4 million+ for homes. Add in a mountain or lake home ... it adds up. But then there’s the BMW ads, the shoe contracts, the football camps ... he’ll do fine. Curry could have coached at Tech forever. But his ego took him from a...

Where we might lose Coach Collins.

Paul Finebaum made a comment once re this. He claimed that most coaches can’t last longer than 10 years in one place. Fans get tired, recruits get tired, donors get tired. Ten and done. I think we’ll see that too.

Where we might lose Coach Collins.

Who knows? Geoff could have said he was there for the long-term at Alabama, MS State, Florida, and Temple. Personally, I don't think he will make it to 7 years. Not for any mysterious reason, but the first person to take on a major challenge is not usually the one who survives long-term. Nobody...

    Krispy Kreme on Ponce

The original Krispy Kreme was a simplified New Orleans beignet. The innovation was the liquid sugar bath. We made them as kids but used granulated sugar. So any beignet recipe will work.

Yes. They moved it to Mansell. I think that one is doing well.

Downtown Roswell closed, but the Mansell Rd location was doing ok. Is that one gone too?

    Krispy Kreme on Ponce

The business model for Krispy Kreme is not retail. It’s wholesale. You need a large enough production facility to service grocery, convenience and other outlets. Retail only locations (like those at a university or airport) lose money. They are used to promote demand though.

    Krispy Kreme on Ponce

Lots of Krispy Kreme’s are being moved, upgraded, or rebuilt. Probably a blessing in disguise.

    Students at McCamish

I was a student during the Cremins Mark Price, John Salley etc years. The Coliseum was electric then with enthusiasm and energy and definitely a factor. It was a great time for Tech Bball ... I don't think it's ever been as great as that, but hopefully again one day ...

    MEMORIES...(first game)

Who knows? I heard TStan talk about attendance, and I don’t think it’s something he worries about. Fans can catch the game live, at a bar, on cable, stream it ... there are so many choices today vs say, 1980. Vandy has about what, 15,000 showing up for a game? And still got their $45 million...

    MEMORIES...(first game)

My first game was GT-Bama, 1979. 57,000 in attendance. Pepper was the coach. That’s when we still played a mostly SEC schedule.

uga @ Tech for 2021 COFH

Interesting thread. I don’t want to end the rivalry but ... would like to play it early in the season. It mattered as a season ending SEC game, but that was decades ago. No, let’s make it the first game. I think that would be an exciting way to start the season.

    Expectations for GT Football

Your post reminds me of the Cola Wars. Asked how Coke won the lion’s share of the global market, Roberto Goizueta quipped, “They invest in slogans, videos, and glitzy ads. We invest in trucks, infrastructure and process. Foundational things.”

    Expectations for GT Football

Of course they do. Bear Bryant schmoozed with them and took them hunting. Saban made it a condition of employment that he had 100% control of the football program with no input at all from boosters when it comes to the program. Tommy Tuberville? Went 13-0 in 2004 and was 7-3 against Alabama...
