FWIW, PJ is usually pretty great with the media in the off the record stuff and he is a pretty good lunch/dinner speaker because he has a lot of great stories and enjoys telling them.
Practices at Southern under PJ were wide open. I mean, you could sit at Wendy's with a double and a Frosty and watch practice. But ... there was a contingent of older fans who came to every practice and if you looked out of place, they asked who you were and what you were doing there. Those guys...
Besides, Giff had coached for PJ at Southern already and I don't think PJ was going to stand in his way of trying his hand in the NFL. Giff is still very well thought of at Southern.
The day after Paul took the Navy job, O'Leary took the Notre Dame job. I told Paul that if he had waited one more day he could have had the Tech job. He said they can come get me as easily from Navy as they can from Southern.
