Why has our defense been bad since 2008?

Probably one of the more thoughtful posts on the subject. The different eras comment is key. CPJ once described his philosophy and broke the game down into possessions, plays, and points. Asked about defense, he quipped that statistically, if the offense owned TOP and scored 28 points, Tech...

    Stansbury

He can't. Why is Tennessee struggling? Why has Auburn (before this year) been struggling? Why has Alabama done so well in the Saban era? Saban did one thing that no other coach in the modern era has done. He refused to take the job unless he had 100% control, including NO DONORS in the...

    Stansbury

The OP asked, "Does anyone know how he (Stansbury) feels about the situation?" I am sure he does not like the situation. He spoke internally (at the AA) of being "laser-focused" on fixing the football program and the results aren't there. Because Collins is his hire, he will have to keep a very...

I was thinking about this earlier today. Geoff's buyout decreases after Year 5. So we have him for two more years after this REGARDLESS of his W-L record. That's because if we fire him, we would have to pay 100% of his contract. It only becomes an option after Year 5, when the buyout is $2.4M a...

Interesting ESPN article mentioning Geoff as the first "director of player personnel" in CFB. "Collins, who was coming off two years as a defensive coordinator at Western Carolina, saw it as a possible dead end and was hesitant -- he wanted a role that would give him flexibility. If he...

In theory, I agree with you. But you can't problem solve without a shared understanding of the problem and an absence of data. Neither Geoff nor TStan communicate with measures and milestones ... they speak in vague tones and honestly, we have no idea what TStan is or isn't happy with. We...

Where do we go from here?

Where do we go from here ... well, here's a little factoid. Attendance at BDS was previously: 2019 44,599 2018 43,087 2017 46,885 2016 47,503 So far this year, attendance at BDS is: Northern Ill. 33,651 Kennesaw St. 35,195 North Carolina 37,450 Pittsburgh...

Fair enough. But did anyone bother to evaluate ... a) what do we have to change to have the BEST TO team in the country? What are the plusses and minuses of doing so? b) If we ditch the TO, are we able to resource appropriately to compete beyond what we are doing today?

This resonates with me but for a different reason. S Peter Kezios, my mechanical engineering professor, encouraged us to think that ... WE DO NOT HAVE enough resources. Ever. So how do you solve the problem NOW?

I spent the bulk of my career managing large, multinational organizations. The basic rule of thumb was to establish a system and manage to the system (recruit, refine, resource, etc.). Changing the "system" was to be avoided at all costs because the cost to change is astronomically higher and...

Where do we go from here?

I think you're being generous. Todd has never coached. He's always worked in administration. He reminds me of a one trick pony and is unable to adjust to the changing conditions in CFB. Granted, he might be a fantastic AD ... as long as you accept the fact that our best teams are basketball and...

Where do we go from here?

No, we have Wayne Campbell as coach. And Garth Algar as OC. Excellent!

I like your optimism. But at the end of the day, we will be right back to averaging a 7-5 record each year. Was it worth the upheaval?

I can’t agree with this. Tech fans DO donate. But our illustrious AA has put us deeply in debt. Without that, we could fund the program. Do you reward decades of malfeasance? The AA have not been great stewards.

Where do we go from here?

No. TStan will put on his robe, grab a brandy, and walk up and down the hallways at Edge, looking at pictures of Heisman, Alexander and Dodd asking ... “What do you think fellas?”

I was driving down 400 on Thursday and saw one of the GT billboards with "Tickets Available". Reminds me of driving down 95 near Philly and seeing <insert totally irrelevant university name> with a picture of <insert sports photo> and the caption, "Tickets Available".

In unrelated news, the GTAA announced today that they have scheduled a home-and-home series with Moeller High School. I've opined on this before, so forgive me. The AA "wanted" to get of CPJ in 2013, but ... 2014 happened. Despite what you read, the staff and administration, not to mention the big donors just ... didn't like him. Whatever. I think CPJ clearly understood the limits of coaching at Tech which, as...
