What does it matter that KQ was wrong??? He had his sources and the info turned out to be bad...that stuff happens in this world. Hell 95% of people associated with GT thought CBG was a goner before yesterday.
Next year it should be NCAA tourney or bust. We sucked monkey ball this year, so just any improvement in the record shouldn't be enough to keep him.
As I said earlier, if CBG stinks it up next year, we will be playing walk-ons in the 2016-2017 season.
So MBoob is giving him one more year with a very short leash. That should really help our recruiting efforts.
With a the amount of scholllies we have to give next year, if CBG has another bad season, our new coach will be lucky to have 6-7 scholarship players his first year.
Since I refused to get emotionally invested in this year's team, I guess I haven't lost anything nor do I have to concern myself with dates for next year's games.
This athletic dept. has to be one of the most financially irresponsible ones of the P5 schools.
From GT's side, we were strapped financially and we wanted to give CBG a real chance to turn this around. Recruiting wise he had to have the additional year.
From CBG's side, he wasn't gonna walk away from a contract.
I just think there's more aspects to the extension than "here's an extra...
@dtm1997 We have to keep in mind his extension was probably a negotiation, not just one sided from the GTAA, therefore, CBG requested his buyout be tweaked. Neither party had much leverage at the time.
With a good coach, I think we could be pretty good next year. Maybe not a tourney team but I don't think it's crazy to think we would be in the discussion. Next year we have a big recruiting class, so a new coach has a chance to make an immediate impact there as well. I don't accept the idea...
Like I've said before, there are several coaches that have won a lot of games at smaller schools that would love a pay raise and a chance to coach in the ACC. Just because we don't have a huge salary to offer doesn't mean we can't land a good coach.
I'm not sure I understand the knock on Gottfried or NCState. They've won 20+ games his first 3 seasons (standing at 19 for this year) and have made the NCAA tourney his first 3 years. Wear do I sign for this???
I don't want Mark Price, nor do I understand why some fans want him. Outside of being a great player at GT, there's nothing on his resume that warrants him getting a HC job at a P5 school.
