  1. How Important is Recruiting?

Good question. How about Bama pre Saban? Georgia pre Kirby? Clemson pre Dabo? A couple years ago, they were about to run harbaugh out of Ann Arbor...What explains the down years for any of these programs? Their recruiting didn’t change but their results sure did. The Tenn example earlier in...
  2. Week 10 #GTvsVT Media

Sims will surely be good to go in at least one more game and that’s all we need to preserve Pyron’s redshirt. Hopefully sims can go a full game this weekend and get us a win. Then we can work Pyron in some over the last three
  3. Week 10 #GTvsVT Media

Pretty low bar for us these days, unfortunately! I agree; he sounds and acts like a coach. Unfortunate situation we all find ourselves in, though!
  4. Option Football

You forgot the good football and wise investment part and went straight to not having time to build something lasting. Personally, I don’t think we have the time or the money NOT to do it right. Building on the whims of 19-21 year olds who may give us a season or two at best seems a bit...
  5. Option Football

You’re right about #4... it’s highly subjective and largely worthless because each program should evaluate their needs; not rely on a third party publication for fans. That’s kind of my point. Where we stand in terms of recruiting is far less important than our development program. As for my #...
  6. Option Football

No one says we don’t need to recruit. A lot of people say recruiting alone solves very little, if anything. Let’s be very real for a moment - we need to do EVERYTHING better if we plan to beat Clemson and UGA. That’s the reason people get sideways when the only proposed solution is “RECRUIT!”
  7. Option Football

“Deion” is not a plan. Best case scenario, it’s still a house of cards. Deion recruits beyond our wildest dreams (top 10 classes). We have some success in year 3-4 and people take notice and Deion is gone. Were better off because we get paid when he goes and hopefully we retain a few recruits...
  8. Option Football

You’re 100% correct here (notwithstanding your commentary on the nature of option football ;))... If everything else is equal (big hypothetical); recruiting will become most important. That’s what most who are deemphasizing recruiting mean when they say it can’t be the primary focus. We can’t...
  9. Option Football

If it wins football games, I will let you guys call it whatever the hell you want! ;)
  10. Option Football

You have been very big on telling everyone that just because CGC failed doesn't mean we should abandon recruiting. On the flip side, you're adamant that because CPJ didn't recruit, "factually" NO ONE can recruit to an option based offense. Both are strawman positions - no one is saying we...
  11. Option Football

Your two posts are a nice segue to my concern. I hope we’re not looking at the “easy” way with regard to the coach. It’s “easy” to focus on appearance and claim we’re doing things “right.” It is a 3-legged stool, as you say and the readily identifiable (easy) aspects criticized by every Tom...
  12. Option Football

That’s taking it to the other extreme... There is nothing to be gained for CPJ or his proponents with message board tales of unfathomable heroics in the face of insurmountable odds. The notion that someone within the organization would hamstring the program for any reason is beyond...
  13. Option Football

I am not familiar with a lot of this but very interesting to say the least. I can’t believe we would do lasting damage to the program to run off one guy but I know nothing of it. FWIW, I think CPJ was retiring regardless. Maybe it happened a year or two sooner because of other circumstances...
  14. Vince Dooley RIP

What’s the deal? I’m assuming you’re cryptic because explanation would devolve into politics? If you’re talking about improprieties at that Athens institution I’d love to hear more.
  15. Option Football

I’m not so sure it’s really the exception though... Tennessee was the example used but you could probably use UGA from the mid-80s up to Kirby. Alabama, pre-Saban, Texas, Michigan, etc. those come to mind because they are perennial top 5-10 recruiting and didn’t perform there for a long time...
  16. Option Football

I’m not sure it hurt CPJ nearly as much as it hurt the psyche of many fans...
  17. Option Football

    How does that compare historically?
  18. Option Football

You’re right... successful programs recruit better. Kids want to be part of a successful program. There are far greater correlations to leadership and investment in the programs that bear future success. Recruits may put it over the top, but they don’t build it.
  19. Option Football

And this is where I disagree 100% Recruiting is not what it’s all about and it does not make for a successful program. If it does, God help us, because we will never beat UGA again. Or UNC, FSU, ND, Clemson, Miami.... they all out recruit us and will continue to. A quick shot in the arm might...
  20. Conference Realignment

Simple majority to dissolve the conference? Where have you read that? The other issue here is that contracts tend to protect more than one party... if the ACC voted to dissolve the conference, then we would be defaulting on our contractual obligation to give ESPN programming. I doubt ESPN...
