  1. Your honest opionion

I was not worried about the outcome of the game until we missed that fourth and one. Agree that the following D stop was a turning point in the game. CPJ said after the game that all 3 blocks at the point of attack were missed. In that crucial situation it is hard to imagine that we lost so much...
  2. UVA Postgame

I don't like fielding punts inside the ten either. The run back attempt was OK with me. BUT: I believe the dropped pass was the sun in his eyes. I was at the game and did not notice the sun and did not think it was an issue. My daughter was watching on TV and she said several players were...
  3. Another defensive question

They are on the field at the same time in our prevent D, maybe called our dime? I also saw Andree off the LOS (LB?) while we were in prevent D. I can't answer your question about L Simmons replacing L Austin as I am not at practice, but I have wondered the same thing, especially when we are...
  4. UVA Roll Call

    Grandson and I in 217
  5. Fromayan not returning next season per AJC

He got an exception and played his RS freshman year (first season at GT). He was a regular on the extra point/field goal team and spot played some in the OL. He has actually played a lot in his 3 years, in and out of the lineup and on STs.
  6. Film Room GT vs. VT Def Breakdown pt 2.

I sincerely appreciate your efforts to help us understand better our D. Please take no offense, but we probably need a little more explanation concerning the lingo such as Cover 3. I would like to know, as we see the alignment and action, the coverage and run responsibilities for the DBs and...
  7. Film Room Defensive Breakdown vs. VPISU Drive 1 and 2

Don't know his overall health status but he did come in when Eason got dinged in the second half. Don't know if he played more or not.
  8. VT Replay

Coming up I had one baseball coach and one football coach who really chewed on me (I never took it personally as I knew I deserved it). When I got on the job after GT graduation I had a boss that intimidated everyone (he made my coaches seem meek). I really was not afraid of him and he sensed...
  9. Film Room Defensive Breakdown vs. VPISU Drive 1 and 2

Cooper around 300. The other two are way short of 300, especially Lee. But you are right about their nastiness and they move well and block well are are durable and tough. They will be pushing Bryan, Burden, and Klock to keep up.
  10. Film Room Defensive Breakdown vs. VPISU Drive 1 and 2

Under the existing circumstances to run the clock this was the right D, but unfortunately it looks all too much like our usual D in previous games and it should tell us to do something else going forward.
  11. Ted Roof's job

Between a few bad plays by VT and a few good plays by GT I still saw a lot of the usual soft GT defense. Several good VT drives were stopped as a result of one of those bad VT plays or good GT plays. We did cut down on the pre-snap confusion and we did bring more pressure on the passer. Overall...
  12. VT Replay

It seemed to me the breakdown on not stopping Baron (60) was him beating the BB block attempts and him getting to the mesh fast enough to cause read problems. When blocking straight up I saw 60 get taken completely out several times by the guards. His quickness when he was purposely not blocked...
  13. Lawrence Austin and Parker Braun Named All ACC for Week

I believe Parker had only one. Announcer miscalled one that belonged to Will. Fromayan and Bryan each had two (theirs were almost back to back). Parker's was actually a hand slap at a defender he thought, but wrongly, had encroached before the snap. The other OL penalties were false starts.
  14. Film Room Defensive Breakdown vs. VPISU Drive 1 and 2

Gamble was especially disruptive and he slapped the ball loose at least 3 times. Kallon was good in mop up after Gamble chased the QB out of the pocket. Simmons was Simmons making a few plays and St A and Freeman got in on the action as well. Rook made a couple of really good plays in space that...
  15. D Line Question

I saw 90 on film 4 plays in a row. He probably played more. Nothing outstanding. He got pushed back (too straight up) like DL usual on two plays. Another was away from him and he was not involved and he made no effort to get involved. One was a run at him and he helped make the stop for a 2 yard...
  16. Ted Roof earns redemption!

Agree completely. My point is unfortunately we had been playing that kind of D in other games under ordinary circumstances.
  17. Ted Roof earns redemption!

A lot of those yards came after we were up 30-7 and we were giving ground grudgingly to run the clock (smart strategy under the circumstances). Still that late defense looked a lot like the D the last three weeks and I had hoped that D had gone away.
  18. Blueprint? What effing Blueprint

And if so this will be a very interesting x and o exercise, maybe dominating some good positive football post discussion instead of the recent boring dribble about coaches/scheme/talent.
  19. VT Postgame

On the BB touchdown with the LG pulling right you could see the MLB following the pulling G and taking himself out of the play.
  20. Scout Team Offense

This scout team thing is over rated. Most defensive skills are taught at full speed in drills, not scrimmages with the scout team. The key to good defense is selecting players with natural D instincts (get off blocks, find the ball, lives for contact, physically durable, and fast or quick)...
