  1. Pressley Harvin's future at Tech

It's not my intent to open up the coach vs. coach or for Mad fans, Spy vs. Spy thing, again, but it occurred to me that the coach who thought punting was unAmerican and placekicking was for sissies, who considered 3rd and 8 laughable (What, me pass? and who supposedly could not recruit...
  2. Pressley Harvin's future at Tech

You just described Ray Guy. He consistently kicked it higher than longer, and returners took their lives in their hands trying to run one back because they were surrounded by defenders, yet he got enough distance to at times flip the field. Beautiful kicker. If you like kickers.
  3. I guess we should have known

In the world of ADs, seven years is a long time. He can make a bunch of money before bailing.
  4. I guess we should have known

Probably. We can all trip and fall, and have, and will. The "running away" is disconcerting, but not knowing the nature of it -- herd mentality maybe? But a general disrespect for what the flag represents is to me a natural outgrowth of flag wavers, flag wrappers, huge, gonzo American flags...
  5. Virginia Tech Postgame

Maybe, but the problem there is that sooner or later Collins has to man up and quit blaming the other guy. I think he has been very good at that. Maybe, had he more than two years HC experience at a middlin' program, he would be better at it. But right now he makes my head hurt.
  6. Virginia Tech Postgame

Now there is a leap for you.
  7. Virginia Tech Postgame

I think what Frost discovered is that his "good" talent in Florida is marginal in Nebraska. They really just aren't very good.
  8. Virginia Tech Postgame

I would say the law of recruiting averages is that 3 of the 7 might contribute more than marginally. It's not Collins. Just recruiting history. Bunches and bunches of those top 20 classes nationwide are outperformed two years later by average classes. So let's not count on 7 for 7.
  9. Virginia Tech Postgame

The game was depressing. This thread is depressing. I am trying my damndest, truly, to give this guy a chance. I am starting to think he ought to reciprocate. We could go into the Georgia game with their NC ranking at stake, at least for a week, and it could get really ugly. I just don't see it...
  10. ACC Discussion 2019

That probably is why a committee member explained Alabama's No. 3 ranking two weeks ago ahead of Clemson et al despite a similar SOS as being because "they look so good." There are two certainties in college football before the first kickoff: Alabama is the NC favorite, and ND is in the top...
  11. Bottom 25 (congratulates Jim Delany on his latest masterpiece) 11-12-19

I really hate those "bottom" ad "worst" lists, regardless of where Tech may be ranked in some mythological sense of objective analysis. They are without exception smarmy, cheap and quick laugh gimmicks that serve not to illuminate but to embarrass and humble some team that made somebody mad for...
  12. What are the rational reasons we will beat VT?

I am just not ready to buy into the SEC hype. Else they have to explain Arkansas, Vanderbilt, Tennessee, A&M, Missouri, Mississippi, MSU. LSU found a one-year QB, and Alabama's formerly "the best" defense was exposed again, but Clemson did it quite more handsomely. I think the ACC is about to...
  13. What are the rational reasons we will beat VT?

You have nailed it. Old grandfatherly Mack with his newly discovered there-is-more-to-life-than-winning culture is positioning UNC to rival Clemson on the other side of the conference and he is in an ideal situation now. If anybody was thinking Brown was a stopgap there long enough to staunch...
  14. CPJ interview - Nov 11

I like this but it is better than a like. One poster wrote that he "just quit", apparently oblivious to a decade of service on the Flats. Good post.
  15. CPJ interview - Nov 11

If he were here, and he ain't you know, I would take that bet. And I don't even bet.
  16. CPJ interview - Nov 11

As much as I would like to see that, I just can't. He would face the same recruiting dilemma he faced here -- outstanding running backs are not going to opt into Johnson's spread, and touch the ball 4-5 times a game, and the onus would be on recruiting a standout fullback. And -- the sticking...
  17. Here is our problem on the Swarm

The SEC schedule might be the most overhyped thing since Trump University. Or before maybe. Some very good teams and some really awful teams MSU and Mississippi are up and down and mostly down of late, and A&M is ranked every year until they suddenly have to play an actual game. Miles' problem...
  18. Playing Time for Jordan Yates

OK, my last word on this wheel of fortune that seems to keep turning: I don't personally care one way or the other. Graham should be his QB and that is not part of this argument. It is not the "harm" that was caused or not caused. It was a coaching decision, or non-decision, I don't know which...
  19. Playing Time for Jordan Yates

No, because that leads one, or at least me, to conclude that Collins screwed up, and it cannot be explained away.
  20. Playing Time for Jordan Yates

All this over one play in which the player to be named later was not even intended to be a factor and nobody can explain then why he was used, regardless of the redshirt. That is the heart of it. It makes no sense and cannot be made to make sense. It is hardly the Clemson model in which a 4th or...
