  1. The Texas Job

I don't think Texas would even consider O'Leary. Charlie Strong's team was as strong on offense, and maybe, even better than Auburn's, plus his team is also very strong on defense. His team has pretty much ruled the roost in the last two years. At this particular time, he appears to have no...
  2. Football spending per athlete

I might have looked at the graph incorrectly, but it appeared we spent this much on each football athlete for each year; 2005(150,000), 2006(105,000), 2007(220,000), 2008(170,000), 2009(175,000), 2010(175,000), 2011(170,000). In a five year span, each player has an education paid for that is...
  3. Quaterback Development

Personally, I think Lee would do well where he passed around 40-50% of the game. He is a passing quarterback, and a person who does the same thing consistently gets better and better at it. Repetition is the name of the game.
  4. Young players key on offense next season

If we were to go to a run-and-shoot type of offense, I think Days and Perkins would be excellent ball carriers. Laskey would also still be good, but maybe with not as much break-away speed.
  5. Would we really be that bad

I tend to agree with Klaus, a player should have the option to transfer to the school that he desires regardless of the conference. The only drawback I could see is if a conference Head Coach tried to get a lot of players from a given team with problems to transfer en-mass to his school, it...
  6. What would you do about our coach?

There is definitely a problem with the football program. Some of the team chemistry and unhappy members of the team may be rumor or sour grapes, then it may be a real problem. Regardless, I think all understand that we are not playing good football. Look at it as if you owned a business. It...
  7. What would you do about our coach?

Mack, you are right about getting media attention. Bobby Dodd was not only a winner in the games, he was an amazing person who could charm the media and they all loved him. He also provided them voluntarily with tidbits of football information from Tech that would help them sell papers. It was a...
  8. Jemea Thomas invited to NFL combime

Yes, it definitely helps a college team with recruiting when some of their players are selected for tryouts or drafted to the pros. Of course, a good player will be noticed anywhere, but it still helps recruiting to a degree.
  9. The Texas Job

Well, it is looking more and more to me that Charlie Strong may end up at Texas. The other coaches in my article regarding the candidates appear to be falling by the wayside. Malzahn, may still be a candidate, but he appears to lack the defensive proweress, and championships are won with defense.
  10. University of Central Florida

Congratulations to George O'Leary and the UCF. They really showed up bigtime this year.
  11. Would we really be that bad

Keep and eye on Boise State since Peterson has left, then also keep an eye on Washington while Peterson is there. Peterson did not have the recruiting base of GT, yet his percentage is outstanding at Boise State. I predict he will excel at Washington and attract a lot of good atheletes because...
  12. What does Paul Johnson Bring to the Table?

There is no way I could know this, but Dodd was a gentleman and liked by everyone. I would think those in the academic department would try to help if they could, but I really don't think Dodd would want them to do anything dishonest. He turned in Auburn for cheating on recruiting, and said he...
  13. Would we really be that bad

Yes, all the great coaches had great teams, and most of them coached at several schools and won at all of them. Maybe, the last good team at Kentucky was when Bear Bryant coached there. Then, he went to Texas A&M and they became a winner. He then went to Alabama, and the rest is history. Ara...
  14. Interesting comments on CPJ's base offense

OldJacketFan: Well that is a can of worms, however, nothing ventured, nothing gained. I think many games are lost because a coach tries to play it safe.
  15. Program has bigger problems

Ole Miss is a prime example that success often comes with a different coach. Hugh Freeze did not get a great recruiting class because the school was Ole Miss, it was because the players were attracted to his characteristics and offers. Of course, he is a relative new coach, so we don't know what...
  16. Duke vs Texas A&M

Squints: That is their opinion. The one who said that believes it, and he may be right. There would be no way to back up his point, but it is a good point, he believes it, and has the right to bring up his point. Duke did start scoring a lot of points as soon as Boone took over as starting QB...
  17. Players losing trust?

Reply To gt936g: There are only two posts above your's and I understood the first one and of course, I was quite plain on my post. Would you tell us what you do not understand and maybe we could say it another way. I am confused with your reply.
  18. Players losing trust?

Yes, it is normally a huge issue with players who practice every day and there is no playing time in the games. This is especially true when the players see that there are not enough substitutions even when players are worn out from being on the field too long. If a team is winning, these issues...
  19. Would we really be that bad

I have not heard anything about Lee transferring, however, I would not blame him if he did. A player who wants a chance at the pros wants to show he can perform in the right situation. However, sitting out at year would probably be detrimental, so if he ever decided to transfer, it would...
  20. Program has bigger problems

OldJacketFan: Yes and No. There are many grads who consider all fans equal, but there are some grads or present students who consider sidewalk fans as not true fans. However, they are not very bright, because many of the non-grads were longtime avid fans before some of the students or grads were...
