Now have a team ERA OF 6.62 - ranked 234th in the nation. I don't have past season pitching statistics but memory would have be believe this is our worst team pitching performance in as many years as I can remember. Not a single starter below ERA of 6. Just WOW...
Was reading an interview this evening with the Braves Spencer Strider (who pitched at Clemson) which made me think about the mindset of our GT pitchers. Here's an excerpt:
When Spencer Strider pitched at Clemson, the baseball program’s pitchers adopted a mentality: You’re always closing.
“You...
Indeed - was thinking the same. Braves had bullpen pitching strategy but GT had their hottest pitcher starting. GT needed to win that game and definitely the series now... Hope it's a better baseball weekend for the ATL than the way it started tonight...
Very much agree with this expectation - we can't do any better this year unless we experience a pitching miracle with more than two of our >6.5 ERA pitchers...
It was an very classy and impactful event for sure - and really meant a lot to Jim and the entire Poole family. Felt like a reunion of sorts back to our travel/HS baseball days with many of Jim's former players and teamates in attendance. Interesting side trivia when Jim mentioned they won the...
I'll be there today with our family. Jim is one of the highest integrity guys I've ever known and has impacted countless young people (including our two boys) through the game. Hope everyone on this board in the area can make this game.
Agreed - now ranked 225th in the nation for team ERA - which has actually been trending downward as the season has progressed. Assuming recent pitching trends hold, we need to score double digits to have a legitimate chance to win. Obviously we all can hope this trend radically changes to the...
Just checked to find GT ranked 221st in team ERA (6.40) in the nation - and that was only after Saturday's game - obviously now lower after Sunday. I did not note any other P5 programs ranked lower than us except (probably missed some)....but the good news is I saw one - Boston College. So...
BTW, everyone on this thread should jump over to the GT golf team thread as they just finished in the final two today in the ACC Championship and will be playing for their 10th championship in 15 years against Wake Forrest tomorrow morning in Panama City. Better positive GT energy...!
100% agreed - there's predictable venting going on here. We've rarely had quality pitching depth during Hall's tenure which I believe primarily points to recruiting focus but this will go down as a historically poor pitching staff as measured by team ERA and probably some other stats. The...
Great to see Medich get the opportunity - well deserved. And as bad as the staff has been this season, Medich has bucked that trend and shown tremendous improvement since last season. I was there Tuesday and thought he was the best pitcher that night too. He's coming in with high confidence...
Love and appreciate the optimism and inside perspective. It's truly refreshing and provides a glimmer of hope for the last part of this season. But it is admittedly difficult to see overall pitching staff improvement this season given GT's 201st national team ERA ranking. Granted the infield...
Great to see the W today. Was just commenting to a friend before today's game that we really need to score double digits this season to feel like we have a good chance of winning. Lotta pressure on our offense every game. Sad but true... Would be curious how our team ERA compares to...
Results speak for themselves and our pitching trends and results are screaming out loud... Something is dreadfully wrong with a majority of our pitchers and/or the instruction they are receiving. Not sure which. Certainly this kind of pitching staff performance will circle back to recruiting...
I'm starting to wonder with the new "lab" and all the measurement capabilities if we may be emphasizing pitching metrics and analytics over coaching our kids how to get players out... There's a difference between focusing on the top spin rate, speed, movement, etc... and getting a batter...
100% wrong. The primary (not only) reason we can't fill up the stadium is we now have a consistently losing program... Fans ALWAYS follow and support winning programs in every sport in every location worldwide. No other way to look at it...
Great to see some positive performances and wish them all luck. The more who get drafted only helps with recruiting. However, one might wonder with all the positive individual measurables how the individual parts could add up to one of the worst team defenses in the entire 2021 FBS?
