    Program has bigger problems

You don't see the word 'malaise' in too many sports forums, but it's bang on for GT football. Between the Hill's attitude, our limited major offerings, and the triple option, we have made Ga Tech football a warm sour English brew in a market that wants ice cold Coors or Mich Lite: a very hard...

    Quaterback Development

OJF, I'm not an Atlanta-area guy, so I don't see spring games. My 2008 observations were limited to what I could see on TV and attending the FSU game. I agree JN is built better to tough out the tough 3rd down yardage, and I think he was better suited overall to this offense than VL is. This...

    Quaterback Development

Interesting post, OJF. To me the 2008 Nesbitt showed a lot more poise than did VL this year. Nesbitt was tough on short yardage plays from day one. VL looks out of place in this offense, as other posters have pointed out. I hope your optimism is justified, but I'm not betting the farm on it.

    Already looking to next year

Talk about irony - a school committed to innovation and progress fields a football team with an obsolete offense that gets more behind the times every year.

    Big dance?

OK, so can anyone make the case we care really capable of going .500 in the ACC? I don't see it happening.

    Duke vs Texas A&M

I have an Aggie in-law. His texts during the first half remind me a lot of some our stuff. Now I understand the schadenfreude thing. The Ags defensive performance reminds me of our defense leading up to Groh's dismissal.

    Already looking to next year

I don't anticipate much difference overall - it is what it is. 2008/09 got my hopes up waaaaay too high. I won't drink the CPJ Koolaid any more.

What would you do about our coach?

Yep, GT and CPJ are joined at the hip for two more seasons at least. We can't afford to pay him not to coach. But the fn buyout is still ~ $5mil after 2015. Thanks, D-Rad. This team is so painful to watch, BDS might be near deserted by then. What is it with us and our horrendous coaching...

    Baseball Recruiting 2014 class

I wondered if Soter would get a lot of attention from MLB because he's about 5'9". Usually a righthanded pitcher has to be 6'+ to be labeled a significant prospect. Apparently his nasty slider had some artificial assistance.

    The Texas Job

Bill O'Brien deserves a shot at the job if he's interested. If he can succeed at Penn St in the wake of Sanduskygate, the extra BS of the UTx job should be no big deal.

Some more info, 90. The Friday night game of the Duke series was rained out, so we played two on Saturday. Game 1 was a classic pitcher's duel between Buck Farmer and the Dookies ace Marcus Soter (I think that's his name). We scraped in a run against a reliever late to win 1-0. Game 2 was...

    Today's College Football & Athletes

Wow, you guys brought back some unpleasant memories, namely those damn suspension helmets and coaches who thought cold water and a hot Florida September day didn't mix. Walking away from football (as a player) was one of the few smart things I did as a teenager.

    What am I missing?

Worse than Blewitt? Really? At least our in-bounds passes don't look like a Bennie Hill sketch now.

    What am I missing?

We are in year three of a five year Hewitt buyout, are we not? If we let CBG go after this year, we're paying two guys not to coach hoops at GT. Leaves the cupboard kinda bare when it comes to paying still another basketball coach. I think we view the CBG era as transitional. At best, he...

    Baseball Recruiting 2014 class

Well, Mids, I live in Tx, so the answer is, "I don't see the 'Jackets as much as I'd like.". I've seen some of what has been on ESPN the past few years. I've combined three Masters trips with GT baseball (vs MD in 2005, NC in 2009, and Dook in 2012). So I've been in the house for seven...

    Baseball Recruiting 2014 class

Seems like we are always a pitcher or two short of Omaha. But this list has three pitchers, so maybe this time. But I don't want to see Hall calling for a sac bunt with runners on 1st & 2nd & no outs in the first inning. (He really did this - versus Duke in 2012. We scored just 1 in...

Paul Johnson: #9 Most Powerful Coach in CFB

Gailey's HC history before & after us indicates a shelf life of 3 years at best. (Cowboys,Bills). He was fortunate to get more than that with us, but he had the NFL on his resume. As to whether or not CPJ is an improvement, that's a whole other country. He's won with high level talent, but...
