Bit of context important here. In the last 3 games we have gone to a very different scheme than the Princeton like set we ran for a lot of the first of the year. The issue we had at that time was that Banks was close to useless when he got the ball at the high post. Not a great passer and a...
Dang Ivy - I even start out saying "Ivy was right" and you still come after me :punch: :( :p
I don't think I was saying we were "completely outplayed" and the game was reasonably close so I don't think that was the case. But when you look at their three primary guards they combined for 57...
If you are comparing last night's GT game to some of the classic championship games no doubt you will be disappointed. Times last night both teams looked like brick Masons more than skilled bb players.
Overall college BB has lost talent to the NBA quicker than back then and the game is now...
Ivy has this right - our guards got beat last night. Both by the eye test and stat sheet. Their guards made plays, made shots and our guards with some notable exceptions don't. Goodwin can and did catch and go up to shoot a 3 with the defender right there. DeVoe for all his skills doesn't...
I don't think we are winging it - any more than any other ACC team is winging it. We run sets that I can see and generally understand - as much as ND did last night. Most offenses score off the third or so pass/motion and that's what we were doing last night. I totally agree with the TO issue...
We have a lot of assumed wins over teams like Clemson and Pitt. They, and others, seem to have ideas they are going to improve as much as we hope we have
First it was really neat to see GT simply outclass another ACC team. Don't care who it was. We had more talent at almost every position than they did. That is a lot of fun to watch.
Here is my Debbie Downer comment - I was counting passes per possession and the majority of our possessions...
Just nosing around - their offensive wizardry has them next to last in points per game (raw / unadjusted) and only slightly ahead of us in 3PT FG % (recognizing both suck). Defensively they are 2 PPG better than us (meh). We are tied with them being the only 2 ACC teams with a negative point...
+1 on "we didn't run an offense" but beyond that - like you - happy with the energy and passion of the game last night. Defense was really good except for the last 10 min of the first half and that really was live ball turnovers more than the defense. Banks in particular changed the game on...
FWIW I would switch the focus for Jones versus Alvarado. We had our offensive success against UNC because Jose was able to drive the paint and make decisions there - lob/kick/shot. He even was able to penetrate, not like what he saw - go back out and penetrate again. Unheard of for play...
I would be floored if we don't see a lot of blue. The win over UNC was great but I doubt it - by itself - will open the floodgates for GT fans to come back. Should see more than normal for sure but if it is close to 50/50 I will be happy
I have no problem at all with Moses at the high post in the sort of Princeton set. He can at least hit a 15-18 foot jumper to keep the cutting lanes open. And he has the ability to drive or make a play from there. Really good place for him.
One change in strategery for this game was we dumped the semi princeton set and never (that I recall) gave Banks the ball at the high post. We either ran Banks with a single high screen for Jose or ran a horn set double screen for Jose. All Banks did was roll and look for lobs or offensive...
