Any news?? (stage 3: press coverage)

My golf instructor has several students on the Texas team. The golf course is about 40 min from campus and apparently, there is classroom building there. He said a lot of those students (and Texas has an awesome golf program) have never set foot on the main campus. They play golf and instruction...

Letter from Todd that came in the mail. Whole paragraph on football. Notice how he mentions funding for coaching positions.

Another letter. I used to buy season tickets and donated a lot of money over the past 40 years. Same story for decades. I will only send money to the GTAA after they overhaul the BoT and nominate competent people to develop the athletics program. Nominating various faculty chairs who could...

The issues facing GT Athletics is way beyond simply getting a new coach.

I think the new reality is that any commitment is a commitment for one year and that's it. So you can either recruit high school or recruit D1 rejects.

Kiffin Looked Embarrassed to Even Be Here Today

Ironically, he's the front runner to replace Saban. He is still hugely popular in Tuscaloosa and players love him. So do coaches's wives, but that's another story.

A $5 ticket increase on season ticket holders will pay for the $3.3M. That's $1.3M a year over 3-ish years. We don't need donors to pull that off. We need donors if we make a change TODAY ... as that will cost $10.5M now. A agree with an earlier post. Changing the coach is the least of our...

Any news?? (stage 3: press coverage)

There are many situations where it is in the best interest of all to set aside the original contract and replace it with something agreeable to both parties. For example, Tech could offer Geoff a job for 14 more years as "Executive Director of GTAA Food and Beverage Operations" and just pay him...

    GTAA

I can only give you my perspective. I have a 40+ year relationship with GTAA, a 30+ year relationship with UT, and see the Auburn and Alabama athletic programs up close. GTAA is closer to a high school or D2 program than D1. It was a very weak operation under Doug Weaver and Homer Rice brought...

You can't. You would lose the ACCN payouts and there goes everything else. No, you have to field a reasonably competitive team.

Any news?? (stage 3: press coverage)

I think if you compare missions of the GTAA and say, Alabama ... they are vastly different. Alabama speaks of .. "If you love watching or participating in championship sports, or revel in a unique gameday atmosphere, then you belong at The University of Alabama." The GTAA speaks of ...

Any news?? (stage 3: press coverage)

Yesterday, I asked my football player students, "What's the first thing you experienced at Auburn when you showed up?" Answer: We do a complete physical, then speed, strength and agility testing. "What's the second thing?" Answer: Report to the Strength and Conditioning Coach and put on 40 lbs.

The mission is ... "Georgia Tech Athletics aspires to ... create Everyday Champions who are leaders that advance technology and improve the human condition." No mention of making money. It's perfect for us since we don't.

If this was an academic program at Tech (like say, ISYE), Cabrera would take dramatic action to protect the Institute, install new leadership, secure the student and keep them on a short leash. It's only going to be when he decides to make the GTAA an actual athletics management company that...

Any news?? (stage 3: press coverage)

No, it's not many times worse. The difference is that the UT Athletics Dept is very professionally run. (Let's set the Haslams off to the side for a moment.) So, if they get the coach right .... there is an infrastructure that can throw gasoline on the fire. We can't. That's the big difference.

Tennessee cleaned house and Josh Heupel has been quietly bringing the team back. No helicopters. No Waffle House Wednesdays. No 865 (404). Recruit, develop, game plan. Rinse and repeat. We need a solid, quiet, confident coach.

I think he has 3 options: HC at a SunBelt or MAC type school (he's done as a P5 coach); DC at a non-SEC school (I think his bridges to the SEC are closed as well); or a back office job in the NFL (which he has been quoted as his next stop if CFB doesn't work for him). Butch Jones not only took...

Any news?? (stage 3: press coverage)

I'm not that extreme yet. I saw the debacle at Tennessee up close. The massive drop in fan support, the loss of suite renewals, neighbors against neighbors, Peyton Manning, locker room fights, etc. Vol fans predicted the end of football relevance. A new AD and coach and 3 years later ...

Any news?? (stage 3: press coverage)

Happens all the time in business. By summer, TStan would have already had a view on season ticket sales and fan support. By having the discussion with Geoff then, Geoff can start putting out feelers for a new position ... which if Geoff gets one, offsets the buyout. I can see multiple reasons...

The 2023 season is already toast. 2024 too most likely. Any time there is a coaching change, and a change in system, it's a reboot. If you don't want a reboot, you hire within the community that knows the system. We rejected that. We will once again change direction .... so 2023 is already...

Any news?? (stage 3: press coverage)

I think something completely different. I think TStan and Geoff have already had the "difficult conversation". Probably in June or July. That's why Geoff sold his house. "No Geoff, you're not coming back after the end of the 22 season." It feels to me like Geoff is going through the motions...
