Literally 6 months ago, I would’ve said no way to this proposal but it definitely has merit. I think some of our issues is that these changes are hitting us particularly hard following 3 straight 3 win seasons.

All true. I think for defense the analytics suggest that if you are weak on the defensive line you have to blitz from each secondary spot or constantly simulate pressures.
Regular students also don’t generate hundreds of millions of dollars for schools. You can’t compare P5 Football and basketball players to regular students. The only analogous student is a PhD student who generates revenue and is typically compensated above their education.
Recruiting has become more of an exact science in the last 10-15 years. Stars actually matter and now Vegas can easily predict winners. There are upsets but not usually with the top 3-5 most talented teams.
Like it or not, some of the talent disparity/UGA talent advantage is on GT pretty much not competing for in-state talent in terms of being a realistic destination for an NFL future or an opportunity to play for national titles.
Talent acquisition might be easier for us than our would be opponents in the B1G. Nebraska sucks because it’s not much talent in the Midwest and Nebraska can no longer pull from Texas as easily given it faces no Texas teams.
It’s all about money 💰… ACC contract though crappy still pays more than the BIG 12 and it would be a shock if the big 12 payout doesn’t drop considerably once Oklahoma and Texas bail. The Big 12 and AAC would then be at a total revenue disadvantage to the ACC. You know kind of the revenue gulf...
