They Have Figured Out Paul Johnson's Offense

Thanks for this. I think we have to keep in mind that we just set a decade long CFB offensive efficiency record (by a long shot) last year. That doesn't happen when a system needs to be changed. We still have the QB and 80% of the OL intact from that team. We need to stay the course.

    IMO reason for our troubles!

Even if you are right, and I am blind, after watching several replays, we cannot have the ball coming out there. There is no solace, none. There is no solace for JT in last year's UGAg game either, even though that one was a bad call (IMHO). The kid has to hang on to the ball and protect it and...

    All we can do now

I dunno. For me, the worst part about the Duke loss was that, despite how little hammering was done, by one team to the other (on offense or defense I mean), we were the team that did the hammering, and we still lost. We did NOT play well on offense, but we DID win the offensive output battle...

I don't think the play was over. I think they missed it.

We don't even need to run a "screen play" where it is called and OLs let the rushers through and then play escort. We just need a BB who blocks for a second and then releases after his rushers pass. Our BBs tend to block and then chase the rushers back towards the QB. Just turn around and give...

They Have Figured Out Paul Johnson's Offense

I would say it looks like JT has taken MORE risks the last two games, just trying to make SOMETHING happen. Just me.

    IMO reason for our troubles!

YES. It is true it was 4th and 2. The point is, THE BALL CAME OUT.........AGAIN! The game situation (4th down) dictates "no harm no foul" but the ball came out. FWIW the ball should have been spotted where the recovery happened which may have been all of 1/2 yard from the point his forward...

    IMO reason for our troubles!

Interesting discussion. I don't think there is any doubt that MM has more potential as a running back. However, this is really NOT what the discussion is about. Who gives us the best chance to win now? Well, if you were watching the Duke film (and all the other games for that matter) you would...

In terms of passing, especially in the face of the all out blitz, the only thing I think we really need is for the BB, who is in pass pro, to turn and release after the rushers get past him and look for the ball. We have had 6 or 7 rushers with, at least, one spy on JT on pretty much every pass...

Film Study Film Study - Offense vs Duke

Devine is punishing people. Just watch the film. He is not perfectly consistent, but if he puts his hat or arms on you, he is going to win the battle. Trust me. I have seen him struggle a little with scooping and I have seen him let a guy or two up under him at the goal line, but overall, I...

    Duke Postgame

OK. Thanks for that. Fair enough. The one part of your assessment I would challenge rather strongly is the part dealing with winning using other coach's players. CPJ came in here and completely changed the system to something not even remotely related to what was being done before, whether the...

Film Study Film Study - Offense vs Duke

I went back and looked at the "Smirk". I did not recognize the player at the time. I now know who it was. On second viewing it appears to me that the smirker listened to CPJ give the riot act to another kid near him and probably heard something funny to his ears. CPJ can be kind of colorful...

Film Study Film Study - Offense vs Duke

Maybe I should clarify. We had 82 offensive snaps. Multiply that by 5 offensive lineman = 410 total blocks to be made by offensive lineman. 69 of those, by my subjective observation, either did nothing positive, or flat out caused a play to blow up. Sometimes there were more than one on a single...

    Interesting quotes

Klock at the end of the Duke game? I will say this: I am 90% sure SD got his bell rung on a play in the third QTR. I saw it on film and thought Oh-oh. Klock came in for a series after that. Then SD tried to give it another go. He never looked the same to me, just a little weaker in the legs. I...

Look, I think Demond is a good player. We certainly need him. However, it is pretty clear when just sizing up either, as an "athlete", what we are dealing with here. The rookie was a pretty good find.

JBR, what "fact" do you speak of? That we are a below average team? That is clearly an opinion, which you have every right to have btw. Saying that Duke "kicked our ever-loving butt" is a bit over the top given the box score. We won first downs 16-11, got more yards, had more time of possession...

God bless the kid. There is a whole life outside of football. I live it every day and I love it. Go forth with your degree and make a difference in your purpose driven life. Thanks for everything Beau.
