Option 1: "I want you to commit to me as your coach." Option 2: "I want you to commit to all the things that we’re gonna do here to help you be successful as a person, as a student and as a player." Sounds like we targeted the wrong segment.

I don't know. But two anecdotes help. At Auburn, I ask all of the football players what happens on the first day back in August. The answer is always the same. "We report, we get a physical, we are tested on speed, agility, strength, position fundamentals and then ... we report to the...

Reminds me of my favorite termination story. A company wanted to implement a reduction in force and HR executives flew in with a barrel of pink slips. Before they got there, two engineers are sitting in their office (let's call them Boudreaux and Thibodeux) debating over who should go get...

Plenty of AD's do. That was not the case here. And my understanding is that Cabrera had previous travel plans that had to be canceled. So again ... lots of moving parts. As to others moving on ... you can't prevent that. Players are 100% mobile now. Best you can do is assess the new situation...

    Stansbury and Collins Dismissed

It's not that simple. Collins did not work for Tech. He worked for the GTAA which had a leadership and governance structure. So first ... the AD had to be fired. (He was.) THEN ... the BoT could act on Collins. I'm not sure if it was Neville as acting AD that fired him or the BoT, on being the...

What would you like to see President Cabrera implement to raise our athletic excellence?

When I was a young engineer, we used to call in on the old phone line modems to use Georgia Tech's structural software to analyze piping systems. Licensing that to engineering organizations was a great source of revenue for GTRI back then. Tech is an innovation organization. I would look for...

The first Tech depth chart since 2018

I'm not downtown anymore and don't get a chance to see how GT prepares for game day production. I have been to Tennessee, Ole Miss and other SEC stadiums to watch games and of course, I live near the stadium at Auburn. Tennessee and Auburn both start game day on Wednesdays ... they will test...

And we have given him a contract? If we haven't, he's not OUR HC.

Good grief. There is a search firm engaged in hiring the AD. If Deion is interested and available then, fine. But let's have the process work the way it's supposed to work.

There is something to be said for not cutting your underlings off at the knees. Cabrera is not the AD. He made his statement, his decision and now ... the interim can address the issues. The athletic program is important ... it's the front porch of the Institute. And I for one am delighted...

Nope. You can get Special Admits. But it's very difficult if they can't handle the workload. I teach football players... it's very sad for some of them.

Tech has been generous with special admits if there is potential to do well. And pretty firm in their resolve to say no if there isn't.

Exactly. It is all about how much effort and investment do you make on someone who may not yield a return (by playing).

I totally agree with this. 2 stars are not generally recruited to P5 programs, so that's easy. The sweet spot for Tech has always been a healthy number of mid/high 3 stars and a few, occasional, 4 stars. If you simply look at the pool of recruits each year, this is true for most P5 programs...

And what way is that, exactly? Tech hasn't done it "my way" since 1992.

It's not a high horse for me. And while "can" get whoever they want, they need Hill approval for special admits.

Just defining the obvious facts. You yourself stated you were an exception and not a general outcome for your school. By definition, that is anecdotal evidence.

Congratulations on your anecdotal evidence. Now, try to build a D1 program. Anecdotes don't work too well.

I'm sorry. I am not uninformed. I provided real statistics. I prefer to make decisions on likely outcomes ... not hope and certainly not hype. But if that's you, go for it.

In a world of unlimited resources, no ... you pursue everyone, worldwide. The best player, period. But we don't live in that world. We live in a world of finite resources, aka budgets. So you have to make trade-offs. And trade-offs mean we should be pursuing the best athlete who can succeed at...
