  1. Paul Johnson reveals starting lineup for Georgia Tech

Surprised and a little baffled at the CB situation. Maybe it is a good thing. Not surprised at all at Curry and J Johnson at LB. Quinney not too surprising since Cooper is not ready and Marshall dinged up last week is probably coming back with caution. Glad to see C Clark and Connor in the two deep.
  2. Hitting home how aggressive Woody's D must be right now

When you can recruit what you want you get athletes, strength, size, and speed (Clemson, Ala, UGA). When you play with what you got you put the best player on the field and not be so concerned about his size. Coaching 101.

  4. Roll call for Toe meets leather 9-1

As usual daughter and I will be in the north stands early to see the warmups.
  5. What are your measures for success with the new defense?

I love watching football with my brother. We play this game where we describe action with our outrageous sarcasm. "The GT blitzers, for example, seem to look for a blocker to charge into, and velcro themselves to". This obviously slows down the pass rush. This seems to be a pretty good...
  6. Fall Camp Thread

Coaches typically teach straight up the field first. Running sideways first just gives up ground before the coverage wave gets there.

Questions to CPJ need to be short (he will interrupt otherwise), direct, non compound, and without any premise. CPJ will otherwise attack the premise or the fringe of the question to give you essentially a coach speak non response. You still may not get an answer but you will avoid looking like...
  8. 2018 Off Season Thread

True if the ball crosses the LOS. If it does not cross the LOS (after the block) it is treated as a fumble and either team can advance it at first touching.
  9. Camp is over...

I would have guessed ILB but the only comment I have heard about him was that he was working with the OLBs. He is likely in the mix with Tre J and Cooksey (available if needed and maybe not scout team)?
  10. Camp is over...

Yeah, Quez is that promising freshman.
  11. Camp is over...

With Curry healthy we are in great shape with three quality ILBs and we can work in a very promising freshman to make a fourth, and then there is Tre J. So IMO we are very solid with ILB depth and the coaches will have a good rotation of their choosing. The pecking order of #2 and #3 is really...
  12. Camp is over...

Curry is a natural D player. I think we are still trying to find out if J Swilling is just a great athlete or also moving toward becoming a great D player.
  13. Camp is over...

I would add Dawson to DE, Cole to FS, -Anderson to WR, and King to CB. Mason is probably AB and BB. I can see J Thomas on STs and maybe another backup at Ss. Good list!

The coaches probably put this together Sunday night. When might we see the 2 deep depth chart? I'm pumped and ready to start this season!

  16. Simplify

This has been my experience coaching D and how I see simplifying. Let a good natural D player do his thing. Do not overcoach him on technique if he is getting the desired result.. He should be given his basic responsibilities. He should know how he fits into the overall scheme. And on a given...

"slasher" I believe he said, describing the running style.
  18. Fall Camp Thread

I completely agree. In the limited preseason scrimmages I have attended under CPJ there is a lot of rolling players in and out (frosh beside a three year starter in the line is not that unusual). This was the final look by the coaches to determine the 'varsity" vs the "scouts" starting next...
