Point of correction, Busse's ERA is still "down" at 3.99, 4.76 in ACC play + UGa weekend. As a starter it is at 11.37, so hopefully that can improve today.

    Should Hall Retire? (Poll)

Just for the record, folks have been calling for Danny's head for many years now. He isn't called CFDH for nothing. To be fair, that may be the moniker on one of the other Tech boards and not used here, I can't remember.

    Should Hall Retire? (Poll)

Nuke, do you still have that work you did years ago? I was thinking about this topic while mowing grass just now, and that was my conclusion...that someone needs to graph all teams PG ranking versus RPI as you have done for Tech. If the norm is that the RPI follows the PG ranking then we know...

    Should Hall Retire? (Poll)

This doesn't eliminate the possibility that we are lazy in our recruiting. I'm not privy to any insider info on baseball recruiting, but I have heard others in different contexts than this message board say the same. The thesis goes that we just sit around the East Cobb travel ball fields and...

    Should Hall Retire? (Poll)

I'm curious...6 folks have voted "No, not as long as he has the support of past MLB players who contribute a lot". Could one of those 6 elaborate on their answer?

    2022-23 Season

Or maybe the RPI is just ranking Tennessee correctly now. Tennessee has had a disappointing season so far. At best they are the #7 team in the SEC, and you only arrive at that number if you give them credit for what they should be on paper. There is no way Tennessee has performed as the #16 in...

    Should Hall Retire? (Poll)

As with most polls (not a shot at you, Nuke), the answer that exactly matches my thoughts isn't there. Therefore I chose the option that most closely matches my thoughts without exceeding them. Thus, I chose option 1, "Yes, when he is ready". That said, I am close to option #2, but with the...

    2022-23 Season

What a bad weekend so far. We have quickly gone from discussing our chances at making the NCAA tournament to now discussing our chances of making the ACC tournament. We are now in the 12th and final spot, 1.5 games ahead of Clemson.

Ah, good catch. I didn't consider that angle.

    Virginia Tech, Baseball

Going back to 2017 (that's as far back as I could easily find). The RPIs may be the final RPI after the NCAA tournament was played rather than the RPI at selection time, I'm not certain. What is the worst RPI for which an ACC team has gotten a bid with a 500 (or worse) ACC record? Duke in 2021...

    Virginia Tech, Baseball

Replying to the bolded part, in defense of CDH (or whoever does the scheduling), Tennessee Tech and Long Island were both in the low 100s RPI wise last season. Unless they both lost a ton of talent from last year's teams their high 200 RPIs this season were not obvious at the time the schedules...

Assuming that Finley is not 100%, and knowing McGuire isn't stretched out yet, Schmolke is the only one I see even capable of giving 4 or 5 innings. In chat it was mentioned that Brown will probably not pitch this weekend. No idea on Finley, but for now let's assume he can give us a few innings...

    Auburn, Baseball

Well, I did some lunchtime homework and found out I am probably a little too optimistic as to what will be needed to make the tournament. Last season the lowest RPI to get an at large was Grand Canyon at 50 and UCLA at 48. The lowest "east coast" school was Arkansas, who got in with a 41 RPI and...

    Auburn, Baseball

What is killing our RPI is the fact that we played Miami (Oh), Tennessee Tech, and Long Island, all at home. All three of those teams have proven to be pretty bad, and 7 games against sub 200 RPI teams is a pretty big amount. Still, our SoS continues improving, we are up to 51 in that regard...

My view on Dawson Brown is that he is a reliever or perhaps an opener, but he is limited to that. If you lift him after 2 innings he has a 3.21 ERA, with 4 of those 5 runs coming in the UGa game. Trying to get 3 out of him is a 50/50 proposition. I don't know who is the #3 starter, but it isn't...

    2022-23 Season

No, he may have missed a few games, as he only has 115 PAs compared to others on the LSU team with 125 - 130, but he is doing quite well. His line right now is 378/452/786 w/ 10 HR, 50 RBI, which leads the team in both categories. Surprising to me is that he only has 12 Ks, which means he has...

Brown is injured, some shoulder soreness is the report. They are hopeful he will be ready next weekend. However, my pessimism pops up here when I hear "shoulder" anything with a baseball player. TBH, my expectation is that any production we get the rest of the season from Brown or Compton is...

Nothing that I have seen. Contrary to what I wrote at 12:20, 3 PM or shortly thereafter look doable to me.
