    Thoughts going into UVA week

For all Gailey's faults, there was one thing the guy could apparently do....recognize talent. We sure did seem to bring in quite a few 2 and 3 star guys who had "projectability" to use a scouting term. Then, through weight program, much hard work by the young man, coaching, environment, etc...

    Thoughts going into UVA week

No I wasn't being sarcastic. I like Jon Tenuta a lot. I think he was the best DC we've had at Tech in a long time. But I'm also not blind to his faults as you apparently are. With his system, it was pretty much feast or famine. When the blitz was getting to people, we made them look bad...

    CPJ Radio Show

Yeah, teams are now going to this annoying arm-band strategy. They print out this grid of 100 different offensive & defensive signals and each player wears it on an armband. The coach can call pitches and/or signals by calling out a number that corresponds to the column/row. It's fairly...

    Thoughts going into UVA week

Hey, we had some great games with Tenuta as our DC. But let's not forget that he was the DC for the 51-7 debacle versus UGA. And Matt Ryan would still be completing passes to the small, slow, white kid if Tenuta were was coaching against him because one thing Tenuta doesn't do well....adjust.

One disagreement....baseball teams steal signals all the time. Most common is with a runner on 2nd base and the runner is able to pick up the catcher's signs. Our guys use a system of hand placement to signal the pitch in to the batter (commonly something like open hands = fastball, closed...

    The Coastal "Race"

It's easy. Their QB play is absolutely horrible.

    I will be seriously PO'd

I'm sorry, but that's just a 100% incorrect statement. IF we were to fire CPJ, the new coach would likely be implementing a true spread offense, since that's the prevalent offense of the day. In that situation, Justin Thomas would absolutely be running the QB position. And I also disagree...

    The Coastal "Race"

Hey, I hope you're right since that would open the door for us.

    The Coastal "Race"

Apparently, you & I were watching two entirely different games when Duke played us. They had us by 3 touchdowns and were content to play prevent defense and let us complete underneath routes at the end of the game. Those passes and the subsequent TDs' made the final score look closer than that...

    The Coastal "Race"

Nah, I doubt seriously that Duke loses more than 1 more of their remaining ACC games. They may even run the table.

There is no longer holding in the tackle box

Well, to be fair, I think the refs missed the calls on both of the Pitt fumbles that were reviewed. IMO, they just simply couldn't be overturned because there wasn't definitive evidence to overturn. Had both been ruled down on contact, I think those calls would have stood for the same reason...

    Bobinski approving of Tech’s progress

Even if we were to concur that your assumption is correct that the odds of a stop go up on a blitz, you're only talking about the odds of a stop on that one play. But when you blitz, the odds of a big play definitely increase. So you're increasing the odds of giving up 7 points on the play...

    Bobinski approving of Tech’s progress

It worked well for us today but Pitt doesn't have a very good passing QB. IIRC, his completion percentage was somewhere around 55% for the season before today. FWIW, I expect us to have more trouble versus the pass with Virginia, Clemson (assuming Watson is back by then) and UGA. NC State...

    Bobinski approving of Tech’s progress

Oh but we can. Blitzing by teams that aren't good blitzers tends to lead to a whole lot of long TD's. I'm not sure we have the athletes who have shown the ability to get to the QB on a pass rush, even when we blitz. Against teams like Pitt, who don't have a QB who's a gunslinger, it might...

    Bobinski approving of Tech’s progress

Not saying we shouldn't be more aggressive. But one of UNC's touchdowns came on a 4th and 6th play where we brought the house on a blitz. And we blitzed a few other times in the 2nd half of that game. About half of the time it was effective but the other half of the time, it cost us.

    Come on D!

Very true. I think he'll be playing on Sundays in the future.

    Come on D!

From my point of view, I'm less worried about our pass defense tomorrow than defensing the run. I just hope we can stop their big running back. Their offensive line goes: 305, 300, 335, 335, 313. And their primary running back is 250. With our smaller DL, I'm worried that we can bring...

    I will be seriously PO'd

Conversely, you could argue that their winning percentages aren't that far apart. Paul Johnson's winning percentage at Tech: 60.9 Chan Gailey's winning percentage at Tech: 57.9 Personally, I think all of these threads are pointless at this point in the season. Whether you like CPJ or don't...

Thanks for posting that. Although I'm pretty sure we all expected that, knowing the way the young man attacks a problem. Hell of a read. Love the "To Hell With Georgia" at the end! :jimlad:

Wainstein Report into UNC Academic Fraud Released

Nah. Nothing will happen. Part of it happened under Swofford's tenure as AD. He'll help make sure that any punishment will be farcical.
