I’m still STILL thinking about the game.
Someone dropping in on that game without background information or context would think that Tech was a far more athletic team than FSU. Far more. By way of eyeball test.
This is a Jekyll and Hyde team for sure.
I said back at the beginning of the season that my favorite lineup was Ndongo, Gapare, George, Reeves and Kelly.
We haven’t gotten that consistently, I think because of matchup issues with other teams. But next year, with growth as a team, that’s not a bad nucleus there.
Love the question!
Perhaps mods can make a separate thread?
If Tech wins the first game I honestly believe their energy will go up. Still would not expect them to go far but would hate to play them if I’m a team with aspirations.
Former UK athlete talks about how players are coddled in the SEC.
There’s something so dangerous about this for our society but I guess that’s just where we are now.
Correct.
I have no problem with 3 or more SEC teams EARNING their way into the playoffs but I want it to be based on record and on the field results not because the format is already stacked in their favor.
The immediate problem is that it codifies inequities. What happens in a year in which there are 3 good ACC teams and only 2 in the B1G or SEC? This assumes that strength of conferences will never go through up and down cycles or that the status quo will remain forever.
When we first hired him it was the Miss State game that made me nervous. Sure, he left a couple of weeks before the bowl game, but that was his defense. In the second half there were players giving up on plays. The Days long TD run was aided in part by a lack of effort by some of the...
And that was when I really started to dislike Collins. 3 years into his tenure he would still on occasion throw former players under the bus for “slowing his progress on a rebuild.” Not the kind of adult you would ever want teaching your children.
Wonder if a reporter will ever ask Geof about Coach Johnson’s comments?
I look at the Collins twitter account and he’s keeping it pretty clean and professional on there. I think he knows the head coach will not put up with nonsense in the media
Still, one good reporter question would do it...
The SEC is good.
The SEC is overrated.
These two statements are not mutually exclusive.
The ACC is not the best conference.
The ACC is underrated.
These two statements are also not mutually exclusive.
Finishing 4 in the ACC was a fantastic accomplishment given the fact that most pundits...
You didn’t highlight the important part ..for that brief shinning moment. As you indicated, we can’t compare because it was just four games. I agreed with you agreeing with me.
Thus Castleberry wins and is the greatest.
But if Hollings had had a full career at that pace, averaging over 25...
Don’t disagree with this. But, Tony was the best I ever SAW. He is not a legend, obviously, because his career was cut short. But what I saw in those four games was mind blowing. Felt like I was watching OJ.
Wish I could have seen Castleberry. Clearly Tech’s greatest ever.
He had the ability to cut on a dime or reverse his field, both with exceptional vision for the field and speed to burn.
Tech was wrapping up another win in which he had his usual phenomenal game, was tired and ready to come out for the subs to do mop up. The coach turned to his replacement and...
For that brief, shinning moment, Tony Hollings was the best running back Tech ever had and one of the best backs in the country. If not for a reserve running back not having his helmet on when he was called to substitute, fate might have turned differently.
