Here is the Jay Bilas analysis and pick.
(certainly seems like the loyola portion is missing proper citations on his sources)
No. 8 Loyola Chicago Ramblers vs. No. 9 Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets
This is the most compelling of the No. 8 vs. No. 9 games -- by far. This is the Ramblers' first NCAA...
I could not figure out which thread to post this in. Hopefully the next 3 weeks are full of Pastner and GT media stuff like this... "CULTURAL PHENOMENON"
this.
i believe lv20gt pointed out something similar to what you are stating. krutwig averages 15ppg, its not as if he is getting 25 a night. and that 15 is against MVC centers. of course, what makes him so good is he also facilitates and creates for teammates, so ppg is not really the full...
As far as I can tell, Pastner does matchup/iso in 2 or 3 ways, sort of. But we don't really run "set plays" - we are 95% continuity offenses.
1. Princeton "low" with Moses on the block for post iso. Have not seen this often, but maybe that was because ACC typically has traditional 5s defending...
He has not written one word about GT this year or last. Only reason to do so would be our hybrid zone. Everything else we do is pretty vanilla (that's not a knock, we clearly do most of it well). Sperber tends to focus on top 10 teams *or* teams that do something unique in terms of x/o. He will...
Your prescription is similar to Sperber from HoopVision - he said in his video breakdown of Loyola defense "if I were a coach facing Loyola in the NCAA tourney, I'm putting Krutwig in PNR early and often." Our games from the last 2-3 weeks are all blending together in my head, so I don't recall...
100% agree.
I don't see Krutwig beating Moses 1v1 frequently. Perhaps a few times, sure. But to your point, he still gets buckets through their offense (as opposed to 1v1). On the other end of the floor, when we run princeton point series, Moses has ball at elbow/slot and faces up, no way that...
I would point out that vs Miami, we switched our defensive strategy in the 2nd half to double the post each time Brooks caught the ball. Howard did well in using his size for the most part, but he also was getting help each time. In the first half, when Moses struggled vs Brooks, we were not...
This is good ****. Really good ****.
All the talk of guarding Krutwig is warranted. But... find me a defender he has faced all year as athletic as Moses. No doubt Krutwig is crafty, so it's about much more than athleticism. But still. On the other hand, flip it to the other end of the floor...
This is the first thing I looked for (games vs P6 opponents) about Loyola (or any other mid-major, really).
Here is video summary/edit of Wisconsin vs Loyola:
this was my suspicion mid-season when i watched them and looked at their schedule. not based on anything in-depth, just felt like a solid mid-major capable of upsetting P6 teams, but overrated mostly living off their recent Final 4 run and beating up on MVC teams.
very true. good point. i meant to say he is not a "traditional" low post scorer with a height mismatch on moses like many GT fans fear (garza cockburn etc). my memory (not sure how accurate) is that he scores on rolls, cuts, putbacks. perhaps some post-ups on the block but not sure the quality...
