  1. Returning players for 2021-22

When a team loses a first team All-ACC player, it is a knee jerk reaction to wonder how you replace that production with a replacement player. But that is usually not how it works. The next team is a new team, and the loss of production off the last team is replaced by a new team identity of...
  2. Returning players for 2021-22

it is a matter of short term versus long term benefits. Get Devoe back, and his scoring ability makes Gt an immediately more dangerous team, and one more likely to take an ACC championship and NCAAT berth. But then, there may be a longer term price to pay for that. Those minutes that Devoe...
  3. Returning players for 2021-22

One could make the argument that the progression of development of the program might actually be more smooth if Alvarado (and even maybe Devoe?) move on. Let's face it, Sturdivant is ready for a bigger role. I bet Smith is also. It probably would be beneficial for the program if we have...
  4. Returning players for 2021-22

Has Alvarado finished is degree work? If he is graduating, then a transfer to another school to broaden his horizons is not totally whacked. However, if he has not finished his degree requirements, then he would likely finish with a degree from the school he transferred to and that would...
  5. What is Josh Pastner's Ceiling?

If you want some bold, semi-ignorant predictions, then I'm your guy! I think it is fair to say that for GT hoops, Bobby Cremins set the bar. So, what are those measures: Cremins coached at GT for 19 seasons He was 354-237 overall (.599) He was 134- 153 in the ACC (.467) He won the ACC regular...
  6. Coaching Carousel 6 - You can't make everyone happy. You are not bacon.

Stevens would win any place, if and when he cose to come back to college. But the question is, why didn't Stevens take that big payday? It is considerably more than he is making at Boston. If that is true, why all the turmoil since Knight left? I mean, if it is such a great job, where are...
  7. Coaching Carousel 6 - You can't make everyone happy. You are not bacon.

How good is that Indiana job? Since Knight, a lot of guys have come in and got mired. I wonder if there is some anchor at play there?
  8. What is Josh Pastner's Ceiling?

"The Roof. The Roof. The Roof is On Fire. The Roof, The Roof, The Roof is On Fire. We don't need no water, let the M***** F****** Burn. Burn, M***** F*****, Burn." Wasp, well versed in the Classics. I can understand why, after Hewitt, GT fans would be averse to biting too hard on a coach's...
  9. What is Josh Pastner's Ceiling?

Well, if we KNEW the ceiling there would be no point of discussing. I am looking for ignorant and semi-ignorant guesses for defecations and Mona Lisa Smiles.
  10. What is Josh Pastner's Ceiling?

Our coach has already exceeded the projected ceiling of many skeptical GT fans. Time for a Ceiling adjustment. Have we reached the ceiling this last season? Can we sustain that? Or are greater heights in store for GT fans?
  11. Arizona HC Search and Pastner Implications

Pastner was certainly not ready for the Memphis job. heck, he didn't even apply for the position. The story is that when the Memphis AD called in Pastner to his office to offer him the job, Pastner arrived in shorts and a tee-shirt having no clue that the AD was going to ask Pastner to take...
  12. Arizona HC Search and Pastner Implications

Who knows what is going on behind the scenes, but Stansbury should know. And if AZ is cooing his bird, then he needs to step up and close the door to the coop. It is not like GT is a passive bystander here.
  13. Returning players for 2021-22

Pastner being a candidate for the AZ job is strictly conjecture. Those who are in personal communication with our coach will have a much clearer picture. IF AZ has a true open search going, then this may take a few weeks. However, if AZ has already completed its preliminary search and is in...
  14. Ush TV

Very good news for GT and this fan is really happy to see another year of one of my favorite players. Jordan was making a really good push to polish his game in the second half of the season and I think there is plenty of untapped upside to develop. I'm hoping he can parlay his extra year...
  15. NCAA v. Alston in the Supreme Court

Hmmm, I don't see this as necessarily favoring the factory programs. The factory schools have large operating budgets under the current system. But if the new rules favor a free market approach, then this opens college sports to alternative sources of capital. The schools don't have to pay...
  16. Coaching Carousel 6 - You can't make everyone happy. You are not bacon.

Maybe IU can buy the remains of John Wooden and prop them up in an assistant's chair. There is a lot of expertise to be tapped there and I don't think it is fair to discriminate based on a person no longer being alive.
  17. Bracketology - Let's Do This

I agree with the idea that more experienced players result in a higher quality college game. However, I don't think guys like Zion, LaBron, Kobe, Durant, really belong in college to begin with. They stick out like a sore thumb in an awkward, negative way. The other issue is how few spots the...
  18. Bracketology - Let's Do This

So, what if Zion Williamson stayed at Duke 3 years? That just turns college ball into NBA-lite, where we have the dominant player acquisition model of winning. Get the Next Michael Jordan and play an iso game and hand the ball to him at crucial times of the game. The NBA has largely been...
  19. Bracketology - Let's Do This

How many programs would you say are effected by the one and done phenomenon?
  20. Bracketology - Let's Do This

Better at the tippy top, but highly debatable whether it is better overall. The AAU industry is producing/developing a larger volume of college ready players than decades ago. I think there is far more depth of quality basketball teams (and coaches) than there was 20 years ago.
