  1. ACC Discussion 2021-22

Terrific post. I might add that GTAA budget and decimation of the fan base might have a bearing on the slow recovery, but I have no comparison with that of UVA. Pastner has an opportunity to position GT as an ACC top tier program given so many of the old guard are moving on. The big...
  2. ACC Discussion 2021-22

Gt fans know all too well that past success is no guarantee of future success. Cremins had a meteoric rise and a slow decline. Hewitt took a nose dive of the tree of success. So, every season is a new test and who knows when a coach has peaked? I think it is only natural for some fans to...
  3. ACC Discussion 2021-22

Aditional thoughts about the predicted finish of 10th: Pastner doesn't have the voter's respect yet. They resist believing. They assume that Alvarado and Wright made Pastner instead of Pastner making Alvarado and Wright. I think they have it backwards. We shall see.
  4. ACC Discussion 2021-22

Predicting season success in basketball: For the NBA let your picks follow the great players. For the college game let your picks follow the great coaches. Has anyone kept track of how many of Pastner's first 5 seasons that we finished at or below our predicted ACC finish? I am pretty sure...
  5. Tech Season Previews 2021-22

Agree about Kyle Sturdivant. I think he plays a lot like Jarrett Jack. I don't see the point (no pun) of having Devoe bring the ball up. He likes to just walk the ball up and he should save his energy to get open since he will be our #1 scoring option and also playing better defense. We...
  6. New Season

Then Alabama did Gt a favor. We have to work in and evaluate 8 players that have not played significant minutes at all and Howard needs to learn how to be counted on to produce. Pastner's schemes are not simple so Alabama firing live ammo at all these players was a best case scenario for our...
  7. New Season

I hope he likes them because that is an important class. There are 8 players in the last two classes when you include Hill and Smith. This is the foundation of the next wave. We need to see indications this season that this set of players will be ready to assume prime time roles moving...
  8. New Season

How the players play will determine all of this, of course. I just look at the efficiency numbers. 160th on defense is way worse than any other season under Pastner and 40th on offense is way way better. With Moses and Jose gone, even if the Freshmen are good scorers, I doubt they will be...
  9. New Season

Those were the losing teams that didn't have anyone else. But with the last two winning teams our coach went with the veterans. Strudivant gradually took Bubba's role. But Coach has valued guys who do not break down on either end. Assignment/rotation lapses on defense and turnovers on offense...
  10. New Season

Defensive rotation or player rotation? So far, Coach Pastner has placed a lot of faith on the guys who have been there before. He has ridden the veterans hard the last couple of seasons. So, if we are going to start a Freshman, then that player is going to have to be unequivocally more...
  11. New Season

I am a big Moses Wright fan. The story of his Gt journey is epic. But my opinion is that he was, at best, an average post defender. I think that is the reason he doesn't have a spot on an NBA roster. While fantastically athletic and more than willing to hit the deck for loose balls, he is a...
  12. New Season

The team looks to me to have enough horses to have an >.500 record in the ACC for the third consecutive year. That is my big goal for the season. Cremins did it once. Hewitt only achieved one conference season above .500 in eleven tries. Gregory never finished above .500 in conference in...
  13. Returning players for 2021-22

Bubba is an effective player against smaller guards but got overpowered against big guards like we saw at Duke and Louisville. They went over him and through him. But overall I agree that he plays. He was a big reason why the turnovers went down so much last season, He had a steadying...
  14. Returning players for 2021-22

I can't help from being excited about the potential of this squad. The roster is quite deep and the number of potential combos is extensive. The staff need only to find one for the team to finish in the top tier of the ACC for the third consecutive year. I like our chances. Usher averaged...
  15. Returning players for 2021-22

New player's uniform numbers are up on the GTAA website: Sneaks takes #5 Deebo Takes #10 Miles Kelly Takes #13 Jalon Moore Takes #14 Jermontae Hiill has #43. No other # changes listed. New Walk-On Brayden Daniels (Industrial Engineering) is #33. Colman Boyd (#30) and Jehloni Jones (#35) are...
  16. kg01's cool (or not so cool) nickname

The nickname should be short and snappy. Simple but with pop. Above all, it should be memorable and unique. How about: "Leper." has a nice ring to it.
  17. Pastner v bell

I'm guessing that Swartz is referring to some members of the press that were really quick to legitimize Bell's allegations by making it a sensational story but have as yet to give any print to Bell's conviction that has vindicated our coach and program.
  18. Returning players for 2021-22

If coach follows the maxim that you play your five best players then I think we see this line-up quite bit. Spread the floor, run and press and try to run opposing bigs off the floor. But it depends on our guards being able to disrupt and extend opposing guards via ball pressure. We did this a...
  19. Returning players for 2021-22

I would observe that our staff has done a great job of reigning in wild talent (Tadric, Gueye, Jose, Usher) and I think this bids some optimism regarding Sneaks moving forward. Pastner has not struggled to get his guys to play as a team. Hopefully next year's team does not break the trend.
  20. Returning players for 2021-22

Alvarado has been one of my all time favorite players and I have been watching Gt hoops since Cremins first arrived at GT. My memories of him are as favorable as any Tech player in my mind. He put a dead program on his shoulders and was the key cog in turning the thing around. But I think...
