    Evan Cole to Transfer

An article in the AJC on the Sjolund and Price transfers reminded me that Sylvester Ogbonda left after last year with one year of eligibility remaining. What he did at Ohio may be what Cole is looking for.

    Evan Cole to Transfer

I mean, he talked to the AJC about his decision, and said: "I just want to do what’s best for me,” said Cole, from South Forsyth High. “It’s really nothing against Georgia Tech. I’ve loved my time there for the past three years. I just want to see if there’s other options.” and then: “I’m just...

What's the takeaway with the number of transfers?

He seems to half believe in "Get Old, Stay Old". Given the effort he expended chasing Wendell Carter and other 1 and done types he looked like he really wanted to jump start the process. And though I don't follow recruiting other than here, I have the impression that he might have slow-played...

    All ACC Teams 2019-20

Per 40 minutes, conference play only also looks reasonable: Brooks Last year: 11.8 pts, 9.1 reb, .7 blk This year: 20.9 pts, 9.9 reb, .4 blk Wright Last year: 14.0 pts, 8.2 reb, 1.4 blk This year: 17.1 pts, 8.7 reb, 1.5 blk I thought Moses showed more improvement than this indicates, but...

A list of recruiting debacles: This List goes to 11

IIRC, when Poole enrolled mid-year the initial plan was that he would acclimate to college and practice with the team, but would not play until the following year. Then the scuttlebutt was that his family wanted him to play immediately, and the staff acquiesced. That was when I really began to...

    Evan Cole to Transfer

I think it also possibly points out one of the difficulties in a "get old, stay old" model, particularly with a coach who tends to play only 7 or 8 per game. With the number of transfers every year, can you really develop players over time and have them stay to contribute once they've gotten old?

    ACC Predictions 2019-20

I disagree that there was no accountability. If you accept the validity of the NCAA findings, then the following would be true. Responsible party number 1, Darryl Labarrie, paid with his job and a show cause order probably preventing him from working as a college coach again, or at least for a...

I agree with you completely on the cycle of dependency. I’m pretty sure Pastner has said in the past he looks for transfers with at least 2 seasons of eligibility. That said, on the issue of having someone who could significantly contribute, if the NCAA changes the eligibility rules to give...

Not denying your interpretation, but I also saw the interaction and interpreted it as Pastner asking something, and did not see a “pissed” reaction to the head shake.

    Thank you Seniors 2020

Unfortunately a lot of those high dollar seats are empty except when they are filled with opposing fans.

So, should we withdraw the appeal on post season ban?

I won’t argue, but they do have a standard timeline for the appeals process which allows for a response, rebuttal, and a hearing.

https://www.ncaa.org/sites/default/files/di-saac-notification-transfer.pdf The current school can reduce or cancel financial aid beginning the next semester. I hadn’t thought about it, but the current school is the one who enters the name in the portal so they have to be notified first.

Because they don’t operate it doesn’t mean they can’t ban GT from participating. From the AJC article when sanctions were announced: “The postseason ban is particularly punitive, as Pastner has repeatedly spoken of his intention to return the Yellow Jackets to the NCAA tournament for the first...

    GT / Louisville

I have this memory that there was an interview with Sjolund when he committed or signed where he said the coaches told him they wanted to use him the way they were using Lammers, so this theory kind of makes sense to me.

    GT / Louisville

According to Mark Bradley, Cris Mack said “I thought Jamie Luckie did a great job. He called goaltend specifically so he could go to the monitor. That’s a heck of an official who can do that.” I think one official saw it as a clean block, and Luckie while not necessarily seeing a goaltend made...

Of course, coaches are paid significantly more than Deans and professors at least in part because their job is to provide a successful entertainment product as well as training and development of students. If you were hiring to provide a professional training program only, the salary would be...

While I largely agree with your point, there’s an alternate history where Young goes somewhere other than GT because Hewitt didn’t promise to focus on developing his basket-facing game. There’s really no way to know how much of Hewitt’s later stage recruiting success was due to his willingness...

No, he's been using the laminated cards as long as he's been here - it's for defensive sets. He does it when he wants to switch defenses, and I'm pretty sure I saw at least one in the second half. Before Swartz was elevated to Assistant Coach his job used to be to line up the ones Pastner...
