One game sample, but the first 2 lines here are certainly striking. As for Stoudamire’s strategy I don’t know. My guess was that he sees more upside with the group he’s starting and wants to develop them, but early returns don’t look good.

GOLD IS BACK ON THE MCCAMISH FLOOR!

Definitely required: Evidently the team & coaches are supposed to stay below that mark (away from center court) during timeouts when they are gathered on the court, so it may just provide a better visual indicator for that restriction.

    CDS staff speculation.

Something that I had missed or forgotten is that in January the NCAA increased the allowable number of coaches for basketball from 4 to 6 effective July 1, although only 4 are allowed to recruit off-campus. This explains how GT is able to hire Babcock and Wells (presumably) as Assistant Coaches...

    Damon Stoudamire

I'm curious about his description of building the staff. I see the "'older guy who had been a former head coach". I see the "couple guys that I felt deserved shots at the high-major level". But who are the "NBA guys to kind of balance it out for me"?

ACC coaches speak anonymously about every team ahead of 2023 season.

The OP linked a 247 blog post with a few excerpts/summaries. AFAIK the actual Athlon article is not currently available online.

ACC coaches speak anonymously about every team ahead of 2023 season.

People's cynicism really gets to me sometimes. From listening to him on the Split Zone Duo podcast, I'm pretty sure these features on Athlon are reported by Steven Godfrey and while I don't know the man from all indications he's a good and honest journalist. I've heard him discuss these quotes...

Neal was the first one that popped to mind as an omission, but I decided the criteria were GT point guard and an NBA career. While I enjoyed Iman Shumpert at Tech, I think I would put Noodles ahead of him in terms of GT point guards.

He got better from last year to this year, and got better during this year. It was not his fault that the team needed more from him than he was ready to give. I was hopeful that he could take another step forward and contribute more consistently. I wish him the best of luck going forward.

    CDS staff speculation.

I’m forgot that! Just glanced at the staff list and saw that Benson had been at Tech for the same 7 years as Pastner. Swartz moved up after the LaBarrie debacle I think.

    CDS staff speculation.

Going to be interesting to see how large the final staff is. Aside from the strength coach and trainer, last year's staff listed 7 positions in addition to Pastner. 3 assistant coaches and a Director of Operations (the DBO is often a younger person expected to eventually become an assistant...

    CDS Expectations

So in the media guide for this season there were the three assistant coaches, a Director of Operations, a Director of Player Personnel (Elder) and a Director of Scouting. Then you had a player development coach, sports medicine, academic advisor, and a Director of Media Content which was...

    Thanks Coach Pastner

I echo your thanks, and I too appreciate that he was willing to take the job and that he was enthusiastic about it. I do think he left the program in better shape than when he got here. At the least, he demonstrated that it was still possible at GT to have winning conference records, and to win...

    When does Pastner feel heat

Thanks for going through this. I just want to highlight: Sjolund Didenko Gigiberia Three straight years of project big men which turned out to be failures of evaluation or development, at least in terms of getting them to be productive pieces of the get old, stay old strategy. And Pastner...

    Post-season Thoughts

My memory is that Pastner said when he was hired that he liked the Princeton offense and thought it was effective and.at some point decided that he wanted to run it at his “next” job. He hired Tavares Hardy specifically to install and teach it because he had not previously run it.

GT @ PITT (2/21/2023) GAME THREAD

Yes, Pace's "decades long record of football mediocrity" began in 2008, the first year they had a football team, though technically they played 1 exhibition game in 2007 as they started up. That is not to say that they did not choose to greatly emphasize their athletic teams in that period, by...
