  1. What true Freshmen play this year?

One the radio show one time CPJ said that BB was a hard position to play. I'm not sure how the difficulty compares to the other positions in the offense, but based on CPJ's comment, it isn't a position that you should expect a player to play well right away unless said player is very talented...
  2. GT Stat Question

Ah...I see. I don't think I've seen a list with that stat in it. I can't think of a good way to estimate it using cfbstat.com's already compiled rankings. The answer seems to be to determine it from the play-by-play data.
  3. GT Stat Question

Does this answer your question: http://www.cfbstats.com/2013/leader/national/team/defense/split01/category25/sort01.html
  4. Custis, Hunt-Days not eligible for ’14 football season

Presumably, JHD has visions of playing in the NFL. Not being able to play has to hurt his NFL chances since he's going to miss a year of playing time. It seems unlikely that his parents will pay for him go to another school so that he can play football. So he'll either have to find a way to...
  5. On the OL, What is More Important....

I think that is just the nature blocking schemes used in this offense. It is a lot of one-on-one blocking and each player has his assigned defender.
  6. On the OL, What is More Important....

Forced to make a choice, I take the road graders. My reasoning is that if the center and the guards can get a good push, the QB has the room and time to mesh, read, and execute the option. Also, if the center and the guards can get a good push then the defense may align the linebackers closer...
  7. lack of passing game

This site linked to below has the formations that I thought were being referred to: http://flexboneassociationacademy.com/2013/10/03/why-over-green-is-a-great-formation/
  8. lack of passing game

Actually, it is by design. I don't know why exactly. I guess is it has to do with getting better blocking angles against a certain defensive alignment.
  9. Spring Game Slo-mo

CPJ said the refs weren't rotating the balls as often as normal. Maybe CPJ should have requested to them to do so. I wonder if he decided that since the conditions were so bad that rotating the ball more frequently would be like rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic.
  10. JT and Byerly Style

He actually did look to pitch in the first play of the first video. Go to the 0:08:30 mark (Note that I'm adding fractional seconds which don't appear in the video time). He's looking at the pitch key. At 0:09:00 he's squared up to him and around 0:09:30 he actually starts to step towards the...
  11. lack of passing game

In that context, wouldn't being gimmicky would be a good thing?
  12. What Would Byerly Do?

If the defense would just play uga at a level comparable to what they do overall against FBS teams, that would go a long way. Against uga, the defense allows an average of 38 points per game for 2008-2013. I looked at some of the data at cfbstats.com and I found that when GT plays FBS...
  13. Great Offensive Scheme but Need Defense

    I went and pulled some numbers from cfbstats.com. Total Offense; Yards per Play; vs FBS Total Defense; Yards per Play; vs FBS year - Offe - Defe 2008 - 6.06 - 5.05 2009 - 6.03 - 6.25 2010 - 5.73 - 5.77 2011 - 6.46 - 5.65 2012 - 5.87 - 5.84 2013 - 5.71 - 5.81 Total Offense; Yards per Play...
  14. Nice Little Q&A with Ted Roof

I really like Roof's response here. Getting all the players on the same page during the game was a weak point for Groh. Kelly did a lot as the interim DC to fix the communication problems. I'm glad to see that Roof has continued to emphasize in-game communication efficiency.
  15. New formations..

I suspect that vamosjacket is right and the issue was that Lee's heart just wasn't in it, for whatever reason.
  16. New formations..

I'd agree that recruiting has to consider the players talents in the context of what the player will be asked to do and that you only recruit the players that you think have the potential to do what you will ask of them. However, when you find those players, you will recruit them regardless of...
  17. For this season to be a success what record do we need?

Can you expand on what you mean by "CPJ was just given carte blanche over the program". You make it sound like Bobinski came out and said CPJ was staying come hell or high water. I haven't heard anything to that effect, though I do think it is unlikely that CPJ will be fired anytime soon.
  18. New formations..

I think it is irrelevant what offenses teams run in high school. If you only recruited players that came from schools running the same offense then you would be recruiting from a much smaller pool players than the competition which would put you at a severe disadvantage in recruiting. If we...
  19. For this season to be a success what record do we need?

All I want is for the team to win last three games of the season. Preferably, that is uga, ACCG, bowl; but I'll settle for NC State, Clemson, uga.
  20. Justin Thomas update

    Out of curiosity, I went back and looked at GT's historical performance. Here are the TD scored and times in the end zone by year. Data is from ramblinwreck.com YR - TD - RZ - PCT 08 - 18 - 39 - 46% 09 - 40 - 62 - 65% 10 - 31 - 54 - 57% 11 - 40 - 55 - 73% 12 - 43 - 65 - 66% 13 -...
