  1. Jackets Travel to Louisville, 2/10/2024, MBB

Our coach has clearly quit on this team so it should really be no surprise the team follows.
  2. I really just don’t understand…

Stop blaming the players. The coaching is the biggest problem.
  3. MBB Stats Update through 70% of Regular Season

IMO the bench points stat is more a product of a quirk in CDS' lineups. Specifically his tendency to use a 5th starter for a short amount of time that scores very little. Examples from our recent games NCSU - Dowuona started and played 7 minutes with 0 points. UNC - Dowuona started...
  4. MBB @ NC St 2/3 5:30PM EST

I'm not really sure if I would say he's further along than Moses as a sophomore. Using per 40 minutes to account for difference in mpg (Moses played about 3 mpg more which is about a 20% increase) Moses - 14.5 points, 8.1 rebounds, 1.7 assists, .9 steals, 1.4 blocks, 2.5 TOV, 2.7 fouls and...
  5. GT-UNC IS OFFICIALLY A WHITEOUT

A snake draft would make sense. So if the teams are A and B I'd go A1 - Ndongo as the piece with no real counterpart. B1 and B2 - Kelly and Sturdivant A2 and A3 - George and Reeves B3 and B4 - Coleman and Claude A4 and A5 - Probably Abram in the back court and Gapare. B5 - Dowuona...
  6. So… we won. Will it be a turning point or a blip on the radar?

If all we lose is Kelly, Kyle, and Claude (or if it's just them and like Abram and Dowuona) then I agree for the most part. Three things to consider though are.... 1. In the off season CDS talked about needing Kelly to play at an all american level. He didn't and our offense struggled. While...
  7. So… we won. Will it be a turning point or a blip on the radar?

For clarification, the consistency I'm talking about is in level of play of our team. If our level of play was relatively consistent you'd expect the outcomes/margins to be more sensitive to the change in quality of the opponent as a general trend.
  8. So… we won. Will it be a turning point or a blip on the radar?

To each his own. The upsets are more fun for sure and if it was just in isolation I would take them. IMO for long term success consistency in play far more important than showing flashes of greatness, and in basketball where you have to win at least 3 games in a row for a conference...
  9. So… we won. Will it be a turning point or a blip on the radar?

The upsets of high rankings teams are more memorable but I think it's better for long term good of the program to play constantly to the level they are capable of and then try to improve that level as opposed to playing to the opponents level and have some great upsets but also consistently lose...
  10. GT-UNC IS OFFICIALLY A WHITEOUT

I mean, I've pretty much avoided the game chat and game threads most of the year but since you asked nicely. Although since you have me ignored I'll doubt you see. It was a great game. Considering the "haters" likely hold the position that the team has more talent than the record would...
  11. Defending the post

Bigs can either try to contest the position down low and have the offensive player have to post up further away or they can front and try to deny. You can also play aggressive ball pressure to make entry passes harder. There are some other ways of approaching just defense in general, like the...
  12. Some 23-24 Basketball stats

First off, I believe you just made the same error that you corrected yourself on? Anyways, I didn't chose Purdue because of high expectations. I chose them because they were #1 in returning minutes rank, although on second look it looks like their rank in that is 11th and for some reasons they...
  13. Some 23-24 Basketball stats

It's also not factually refuted in general. If you are dealing with only absolute facts then you wouldn't be talking about any kind of prognostication in the first place. Teams develop and change over the course of the year. Why wouldn't more recent games be more indicative of the current...
  14. Some 23-24 Basketball stats

First, that doesn't address the idea that games towards the end of the year are more indicative of the next year's play than the ones earlier in the year. Second, even if it's true as a general trend, it wouldn't make sense to just blanket not look at late season play for any team. For...
  15. Some 23-24 Basketball stats

Over the course of the year yes. We were a bottom of the conference team overall. For a large portion we were arguably the worst team in conference. If all you are doing is analyzing how last year went then that is absolutely true. But in terms of projecting for the next year the more recent...
  16. Some 23-24 Basketball stats

Pastner isn't our coach, won't be our coach, and there is no real way to support either a yes or no to the first three answers in an concrete way. None of my points had anything to do with Pastner. The only reason I go back to the end of last year is to establish where we were at when CDS took...
  17. Some 23-24 Basketball stats

Again, the question was at the end of last year, on march 9th, was it reasonable to expect the team to improve from where it was based on the then outlook that we were likely returning 7 of our top 8 players. So that is before Terry's injury, before the transfers for out, and even before the...
  18. Some 23-24 Basketball stats

So you didn't really answer the question of whether it was too optimistic to expect improvement over where we ended last year. I guess I should clarify I don't necessarily mean record wise as winning 60% of our games doesn't reflect where the team was at the end of last year when you...
  19. Some 23-24 Basketball stats

This topic? You mean the topic of margin of victory and how "close" we are to a better record? Pretty sure I've made just this one post about that so I wouldn't really call that banging the drum. Do people really think that we are 9-10 just because the ball has bounced the wrong way in close...
  20. Some 23-24 Basketball stats

Well, that is certainly one way to look at things. Any particular reason to not include the 14 and 35 point losses (or the 3 point loss to UML for that matter)? But even if you want to just use the last 7, for whatever reason, then you would also want to look at the wins. In our last 7 wins...
