    King Injury Factual Updates

Oh, good. "...may or may not play...". As definitive a prognosis as we've seen yet. Can't go wrong with that.

Early Line - GT v VPI

I'm having a little trouble reconciling the fact that VT ranks #99 against the run with their DL being "really good". https://www.ncaa.com/stats/football/fbs/current/team/24/p3

Early Line - GT v VPI

Ran for 245 yds. vs Duke, 371 vs UNC before being held to 64 vs ND. Tech should move the ball on the ground against VPI.

    King Injury Factual Updates

Pyron will start...barring injury setbacks". Sounds like Pyron is dinged but expected to recover by Saturday and start.

Early Line - GT v VPI

If it's Haynes I feel good about our offense vs. VPI and if it's Pyron I feel good too, especially since he's had a recent game under his belt (and I thought played quite well under pressure). In the weird way college football works, I thought a win over ND would lead to a letdown loss to VT but...

What I've never understood is why 29% of the people who buy tickets in the FBS don't show up - even on a clear day in the 70s. OTOH when it's Alabama and Tennessee, every seat is filled.

I've been impressed with how disciplined the players are, often pulling up and avoiding personal fouls. They seem to have a good sense of that, generally.

No, he's had some very good punts. A 52 yarder and a 42-yarder downed at the three in the last game. The line drives are the result of rushed punts because of poor blocking.

    Onto the TECH-mo Bowl!

Sometimes I like to combine them, as I did with FSU. Ran out of luck yesterday, though. I liked the 14 points. I thought we'd keep it close but still probably lose. Didn't keep it quite close enough.

The intentional grounding was clear to me. Ball was way out of bounds, and he was certainly throwing the ball away. It went out of bounds at least three yards short of the LOS. I know calls go both ways, but both of these seemed glaringly obvious. On the roughing, we should have kept the ball...

    Onto the TECH-mo Bowl!

I'm inclined to take the 8.5 points and win back what I lost on the ND game. It should indeed be a close one.

I'm pretty sure Buster did not give up. He called the best game he could, and it is not at all clear that throwing to Haynes more would have worked better.

    Onto the TECH-mo Bowl!

    Need to get Efford back.

    Onto the TECH-mo Bowl!

The season isn't over, and Tech could well end up with more than 6 wins.

I don't usually complain a lot about officiating, but it's surprising to me that two non-calls have gone unmentioned, unless I missed it. One is an obvious running into or roughing the kicker which was ignored on a punt, and the other is an intentional downing by ND that was very obvious because...

The line drive punts seem to me to be the result of poor blocking. I've noticed Shanahan kicks line drives when he's rushed. He's had a few almost blocked and did a good job just to kick the ball out of there.

Zach Pyron is a tough dude!

A hurt King would not have given us a better chance to win than a healthy Pyron. That's why King was on the bench, or at least one of the reasons, including his need to heal up before seeing the field again.

I think they give you five games now, so Philo could play in all the remaining four games and still retain eligibility. They don't count bowl games, I suppose.

I agree. To my mind playing hard is the most important but that's not to discount other aspects of the game, though I've never seen one that is free of mistakes. But there is room for improvement, to be sure.

Shanahan has had a pretty good year all-in-all until yesterday, but the fumbled snaps are on him. For field goals, maybe we should have a QB back there.
