I don't remember the yard line, but that is the one that I remember. I was shocked. After the game CPJ said that he was preparing to call timeout, but Kentucky didn't have anyone lined up on the center. He said if they weren't going to put a DL inside the tackles that he was just going to...
I have seen that phrase, but not just for people who have been fired. Sometimes "pursue other opportunities" is used when saying that someone's last day is next Friday. That person will sometimes respond and say how they enjoyed their time at the company, but wanted to ... whatever the reason...
It really looks like some kind of HR action instead of a coaching decision. The answer from Key after the game Saturday sounded like he was not in charge of making the decision.
I have been involved in firing people for cause, and with laying people off. It has never been a pleasant...
Not factual, but hypothetical and speculative: I understand that they knew on Sunday that he wouldn't play in the ND game. I understand it really was a day-to-day decision last week. I doubt he would have started, but might have been available. Given that, I have to believe that he will be...
Points are the most important stat. Unlike many, I don't think the offense moving the ball is the problem. I don't think the defense being able to stop the other team is the problem. Overall, both units are performing fine. Special teams has been a problem, and @roadkill pointed out that...
The Syracuse game was a 3 point game. GT missed a FG in the third quarter. GT could have stopped Syracuse on 3rd and 10 from their 25 yard line with 2:31 left on the clock.
What I think is interesting is that people are more frustrated with the actual games now than they were in 2022. People...
Special teams was pretty good on Saturday. Their issues have been perplexing. One bad play is because a guy just misses his block and causes a blocked FG. One because the punter kicks a line drive that is returned for a TD. Two because the long snapper snaps the ball too high. It hasn't been...
I didn't watch the line closely enough. The PFF grades have the OL good at run blocking and very good at pass protection. Those grades have the RB average at rushing, and bad at blocking. They have the WRs bad at run blocking. I think the skill guys were more to blame that the OL.
That isn't exactly what I am trying to say. There is some disconnect. Duke game especially, GT had about triple the yards that Duke had in the first half yet only led by 3. Something isn't lining up between how the team is playing, and getting points on the board.
My point is that blaming...
You can also pick out stats that are meaningless in a larger context.
My intent is to try to say that GT didn't play as poorly as people on here seem to believe. GT stopped VT a lot more than VT stopped GT. VT only converted 2 3rd downs. VT did convert 1 4th down, but that was after the...
A big problem with the eye test is that it simply follows your feelings. Going by the eye test, the College Gameday crew said that FSU was going to trounce GT. I heard explanations of that after the game. Apparently, they viewed a GT practice and an FSU practice and said that FSU just looked...
I don't think anyone is saying that GT is actually a 6-3 or 7-2 team. We are just discussing reasons for the loss. Some people, maybe not in this forum, are saying that Key needs to be fired immediately. That is ridiculous. Some people are saying that the offense stinks. Yet the offense...
We were really down at TE at the UNC game. At VT, we used Boyd and Hawes who were the 1st and 2nd string guys in the first game. Siether, who probably would have been 1st, was lost for the season in summer camp.
GT still has the 24th best offense using EPA. The defense is 62nd. Using EPA, GT has the 5th best offense in the ACC, but the 12th defense. GT is averaging 422 yards of offense and allowing 323 yards of defense.
In my opinion, the big issue this year is lack of scoring. It isn't that the...
I might be wrong, but it looked like Pyron was either still banged up from the ND game, or sick on Saturday. If so, we had a hampered 2nd string QB, and a true freshman who probably doesn't know the entire playbook. At RB, we weren't down 1 RB. At one point in the game we only had two RBs...
Based on the PFF grades, the OL and DL both played well. The OL was better at pass blocking than run blocking, but the run blocking scores are average to good. The skill positions are what looked bad based on those grades.
We know that there are several players missing because of injuries...
I posted before I listened to the next question which was: "Is he still on staff?". The reply was "I said he didn't make the trip and that's all the information I have."
Doesn't sound good. When asked at the post-game press conference Key said "He didn't make the trip and that's all.. that's all the information that I have"
