  1. Expectations for the 2021 season

Very true but we allowed both Pitt and BC which had mediocre running games to run all over us. I am more than willing to eat crow but until then I am from Missouri...show me. The proof they say is in the pudding. College Football News just put out its preseason All ACC team. By team...
  2. Here's something GT Swarm can argue over

Yep. I believe you are right about Lum Snyder. My source was my friend's dad who was a backup running back on the 1952 team but played in 1951 as well. He was about 80 when he related that tale to me so a little fuzzy memory is to be expected. He was small but very fast. He was offered a...
  3. Here's something GT Swarm can argue over

Speaking of Pepper. He went to Brown High School in Atlanta and chased a girl who later became Harry Wright's wife. He despised Pepper for that reason among others but that Pepper was something else. At an Orange Bowl game in circa 1950, he was the place kicker and in practice kept shanking...
  4. Here's something GT Swarm can argue over

Au contraire, my wife went to school in Jackson at Belhaven and hails from LA (Lower Alabama). It is telling that in his autobiography, Dodd said that he NEVER got a bad player out of Mississippi which was probably true but he was also very selective. He also got players from the Carolinas...
  5. Expectations for the 2021 season

Watching the Pitt game last year is one reason but I cannot see us losing to Duke this year they are in bad shape. The question is can this team scratch another win out of Pitt, BC, Virginia Tech, UVA,? I remain skeptical and hold to my early prediction of 4 wins.
  6. Here's something GT Swarm can argue over

Another reason Mississippi hated us was Dodd's canny ability to scoop one or two of the best players out of that state just about every year.
  7. Here's something GT Swarm can argue over

Memory is hazy but I think that is what the photo is about as well as the then traditional "Empty Stocking Fund". Unlike today, there were several "All American" teams picked by, among others, Colliers magazine, Look magazine, Sporting News, AP writers, the UPI and Christ alone knows who else...
  8. Here's something GT Swarm can argue over

My dad graduated just before then in 1950 on GI Bill. Bachelor of Science in Textile Engineering. He got through Tech while being married, already had one child my older sister, and working part time. I don't know how he did it.
  9. Here's something GT Swarm can argue over

Left to right, I am not sure about this as it is from memory. Don't know, maybe Glenn Turner?, George Morris, Buck Martin, Not sure about the next one, Pete Brown, and Hal Miller. Anyone know for sure?
  10. Here's something GT Swarm can argue over

That is one way of putting it but neither of them were going anywhere without the blocking of All American tackle Hal Miller and the tough fullback Glenn Turner.
  11. Here's something GT Swarm can argue over

Teas was the most talented without a doubt but Hardeman was "the Man" in the Sugar Bowl win over Ole Miss. That said, none of them were among the six, count em', six All Americans on that team. The running backs were very good but not the main strength of the team which was its defense and...
  12. Expectations for the 2021 season

That makes sense but personally, a team that has won three the past two years has a floor of three and a ceiling perhaps, as high as seven. I am sticking with my prediction of four wins.
  13. Expectations for the 2021 season

This is largely true but the talent gap is huge, no denying that but then it was huge when Pepper beat them in 1974 in the rain, it was huge when Curry won, and so forth. As for the "current idiot", everything shapes up for him to win that elusive national championship this year. It is perfect...
  14. Expectations for the 2021 season

Curry had the worst rebuild and it is not even close. He came to Tech when facilities were generally regarded as the absolute worst in Division One. He had to deal with an indifferent and often hostile administration and faculty. Relations with alumni and fundraising were at a low point...
  15. Expectations for the 2021 season

College Football News weighed in for what it is worth on the Jackets. I will try to summarize as best I can their thoughts on how Tech will do this season. OFFENSE: Last year Tech averaged 390 yards of total offense and 24 ppg. The main problem to CFN was that Tech failed to score in 10...
  16. Writer and Analyst ACC Forecasts

Regarding the two most challenging schedules in the ACC, FSU and ours, I don't think there is any question that ours is more demanding even if they do open with the Irish.
  17. Writer and Analyst ACC Forecasts

Their problem is similar to ours, they have a difficult cross divisional rival that they play every year in Miami. Of course, we play Clemson and Miami as well as UGA every year so I am not shedding tears for them. Last year they lost convincingly to Louisville, Miami, Pitt and Notre Dame and...
  18. Writer and Analyst ACC Forecasts

It was not that long ago the Criminoles won a national championship. That has to count for something...for a while anyway.
  19. Writer and Analyst ACC Forecasts

No one ever questions the talent...it is what they do with it that seems to get messed up. The experts seem to think that the old bugaboo holding the criminoles back was the offensive line and it is supposed to be better this year. I will believe it when I see it. I am not sold on the...
  20. Writer and Analyst ACC Forecasts

Schedules like this and UGA's schedule to a lesser extent, are what national championships are based on. Easy games with just one or two headline grabbers.
