  1. AD Hire: J Batt

With apologies to the Bear, that was me getting the location wrong. Must be all the Auburn and Alabama in laws that I have to endure every Thanksgiving and Christmas.
  2. Week 8 #UVAvsGT Predictions

I got Tech in a close one. Watched UVA vs Louisville. They don't look like the same team from last year. Dropping passes, stupid penalties, Armstrong does not look comfortable in that offense or behind that line. The College Football News crowd has Tech winning also in a relatively close...
  3. AD Hire: J Batt

I don't know about engineering on the Plains but my understanding from my Yellow Hammer state in laws is that students that aspire to be doctors, lawyers, accountants, that sort of thing go to Alabama while most of the vets, foresters (like my nephew), teachers (like my sister in law) and...
  4. In honor of UT tearing down the goalposts today. Let’s rewind to simpler times.

For the life of me, I don't understand why head coaches keep hiring him. He must give a great interview or something.
  5. In honor of UT tearing down the goalposts today. Let’s rewind to simpler times.

Yep. That "dadgummed wishbone" as Bobby Bowden called it was humming that night. Probably Tevin's best game as a Jacket. That Clemson team was loaded with talent but it did not matter that night.
  6. Jeff Sims Reset?

True, but how much of that was on him and how much was on Chan and the offensive coordinator? I always will have a soft spot for him playing lights out against Auburn those two games with my in laws jaws dropping in astonishment. Both Auburn teams were highly ranked and heavily favored but the...
  7. GT favored over UVA

I don't know what to make of this. Both teams sport identical 3-3 records on the year (edit. UVA is 2-4 an unimpressive 2-4 at that) College Football News has UVA pegged at #74 in the nation with Tech #56 (I think). Their panel of experts that made predictions on this game including several...
  8. Jeff Sims Reset?

I couldn't help but notice that as well...funny how that seems to play out so often with quarterbacks.
  9. Jeff Sims Reset?

If the opponent was Auburn or Miami, Reggie was money in the bank along with more than a little smack talk going down as well. Clemson and UGA? Not so much. One play against Miami, Reggie took off for a run of ten yards or so and was viciously hit out of bounds...he came right back up with...
  10. Jeff Sims Reset?

I thought that Leonard looked impressive against Kansas and Northwestern when I was checking him out. Poised for a freshman, good arm, and could run well enough if needed but I was fooled by the competition and Leonard has the benefit of a better than usual Duke offensive line. I think Jeff's...
  11. Jeff Sims Reset?

Well, he is the quarterback. You should know how that goes. They get too much of the blame and too much of the credit. If fans want to see Jeff play better, tell the line. They are the ones with the matador imitations way too often. Take care of the ball, run it when necessary, throw it on...
  12. In honor of UT tearing down the goalposts today. Let’s rewind to simpler times.

Virginia Tech was ranked 4th and we were 16th or so as I recall. Nonetheless, we were pretty heavy underdogs so this was one of the top 5 or so biggest upsets in modern times. The much maligned defense came to play that night for sure. Too bad they lost to UGA and Iowa. ACC champions anyway...
  13. In honor of UT tearing down the goalposts today. Let’s rewind to simpler times.

That game? Probably should have broken down both of the goal posts. Maybe they did.
  14. In honor of UT tearing down the goalposts today. Let’s rewind to simpler times.

I don't know the answers, only what I observed after teaching public high school for 30 years. A gradual, very gradual, decline in attention span and desire to learn as opposed to doing just enough to get by. On my tennis team in the class of 2000, we had the graduating class' valedictorian...
  15. GT favored over UVA

To think, I bought into the hype that the U was back. Should have known better. On the Miami board, one wisenheimer posted that Miami fans are like the absolute worst travel ball parents he had to endure as a baseball coach. That said, there is plenty of talent on that team. Enough to blow...
  16. GT favored over UVA

I do not recall UVA traveling that well in the past. Someone more familiar with ACC schools can break it down but it always seemed to me that other than Clemson, the only teams that brought a lot of fans from ACC schools were FSU and for some reason, NC State. Could be wrong about that though...
  17. Ted Roof Oklahoma

Being a defensive coordinator has been a tough way to make a living for 20 years now. Rule changes have usually benefited the offenses who did not need much help anyway. Receivers keep getting bigger, stronger, faster and quarterbacks keep getting better all the time. A truly great defense...
  18. Former GT Coaches

He also had a history of beating Georgia, both at Tech and at UCF. That is a major difference between a bad coach and a good coach.
  19. AD Hire: J Batt

There you go. An endorsement from the Loveliest Village and a Bama booster. What more do you need?
  20. AD Hire: J Batt

Maybe so, but none of those teams have won a national championship. Tech has won four. Our goals have consistently been higher than being someone's doormat. Everyone needs to stand back and give this man some working room. He will have us being closer to the Capstone than Oregon State soon...
