It remains to be seen but it is possible 3 or 4 years hence, that at least one of those three schools will be wishing they had not opened the checkbooks so wide and had been prudent enough to say NO to 7 year coaching deals.
I know some people are disappointed that it is not a "splash" hire. Maybe I am as well but this has all the earmarks of someone who wanted to be here in the worst way and will do his absolute best. We could do worse...much worse.
You mean like we just did with Geoff? Like Miami did with Manny? (That on top of paying Temple a wad of cash for the 3 weeks or so he was under contract to the Owls) Hell, Miami went through Shannon, Golden, the Reverend who was a successful P5 coach and had played at the U to boot, not to...
Well, he would probably post something that makes more sense than what I usually post especially about coaching hires. For some reason, I just never envision Tech getting the perfect coach that everyone just screams "That's HIM" I think that scenario is kind of rare anyway. I can think of a...
I am not advocating for Coach Key but this part should be noted by AD Batt: "The kids LOVE him. They play FOR him..." Having confidence and respect for the coaches has become a major contributing factor in having a successful program for a school below the elite factory class.
"Tech is closer to a service academy..." There would seem to be a lot of truth in that statement. I would offer one caveat. We have access to recruiting areas that the service academies can only dream about.
Maybe, but I would think it has more to do with him knowing Batt but the same could just as easily be said of Coach Key as well. Glad I am not making this decision because it has all the earmarks of being one of those damned if you and damned if you don't deals.
They seem pretty glad to Coach O'Brian leaving. There are a bunch of them who want to get rid of the defensive coordinator as well. Bama's record this year is what? 10-2 losing only to LSU and Tennessee while handily beating in state rival. We should have such problems.
Its a good thing Charlie never played football, he would have had a heart attack sooner or later. When he was offensive coordinator one year at Florida he had a habit of sitting at the end of the bench and the quarterback would sit next to him. When he sat down, its a wonder the other side of...
I just came from my in laws annual civil war in Alabama. The Alabama fans were complaining about losing to Tennessee and LSU (but they seemed to blame the defense, FWIW) while the Auburn fans were muttering: "We should have such problems" Does Auburn have a similar scenario going on with...
Pretty good summary, I guess. I don't know that much about him. He coached at Tech a while ago, he has coached in the NFL, and he is coaching at Alabama. He did a pretty good job wrecking Auburn. That is about it so I will let others more knowledgeable offer their opinions and insights. IIWII.
When I was in high school, various options were all the rage. It was difficult at best to be either an outside linebacker or a corner back in those days. You were often assigned to the pitch man who was running full steam and just as you are lining up to make the tackle, some SOB nails you on...
Maybe not, but I was told and have read in this forum that major donors seethed at Coach Johnson's antiquated high school offense. If that is true, they got their wish and 4 years of less than mediocre football has been concluded.
