"What if we were to have a "Super D1" level that did away with scholarships or any pretense of school? Would any teams or conferences sign up for that?" The entire SEC, Clemson, Miami, FSU, and quite a few others are practically there now.
I am beginning to think that is a good question. Why not have a developmental league for the NFL of the various factories? The "pretense" of true amateur athletics with student-athletes who, you know, actually go to class is a worthy goal but likely is doomed.
This is a small minority opinion but I would be in favor of such a split. UGA, Alabama, Miami, FSU, Clemson, Auburn, Ole Miss, and Tennessee among a host of others should shed the pretense of having players go to class and declare them, in effect, professional athletes and pay them. Since that...
Not much can be done but we are currently in the same position as Tulane, Rice, Vanderbilt, Duke, Northwestern and other academic schools that will never be able to match the factories in money, facilities, recruiting, and cheating. IIWII
I did not comment but a couple of them were upset that Dabo did not see what they saw at the beginning of the season. In their minds, it was obvious that DJ had not gotten any better and needed to sit down for the next 5 star shiny thing coming down the pike. Personally, I thought Dabo was...
Maybe someone is whispering in their ear...you are better than this...go ahead do it, the NFL riches await. By the time they figure it all out its too late.
I don't know about those other guys in that top ten list but my Clemson friends at church would dispute DJ being on any top ten list unless its a list devoted to wasted talent.
DJ saw the writing on the wall in that ACC championship game. Dabo stayed with him as long as he could but after the first two series it was time for the pine. And another 5 star is busted.
I only want to point out that the GBG jerseys are very much like the ones worn by the 1990 champions and that the WWG combination was the one worn by Dodd's last team in 1966. I prefer the traditional GWG combo but more than willing to defer to other preferences with one caveat. The blue pants...
No one knows because we do not know about the Portal and the roster. I would surmise that next year will be our worst year with say 5 wins. Our ceiling might be 9 or 10. Just a guess.
Too damn fluid if you ask me. Which tends to result to the benefit of the elite factories. Our last coach was a long way from being decent even after 3 years and players shuffling in and out of the portal like an arena football team. I guess it depends upon one's definition of "decent". At...
Maybe it should not but it took Frank about 5 years to turn Virginia Tech around and it took Bill Curry 4 years just to reach mediocrity. I think we will be a pretty tough team from the get go, that other teams will not want to play but the win/loss record may not reflect that. On the other...
That was not the first thing to come to mind watching Coach Key. I have this uncanny feeling that in SOME ways he reminds me of Coach Pat at Pitt. I watched some of Pat's press conferences following our games with Pitt over the years and Key is the same kind of no nonsense sort. On one of...
I cannot speak for others but my desire is for our boys to play hard, have fun, graduate, and win ball games. I am pretty sure that based upon what I am hearing that Coach Key was the right man for the job. Are we going to be a perennial top 20 team? Probably not. Are we going to be a team...
