I don't see a position change for Pyron, but stranger things have happened. I think Pyron will stick and stay at QB unless King decides to stay another year. I expect that to happen and then we'll see. Fall could make a difference too. The competition between Pyron and Philo should be fierce and fun for the coaches to watch, especially if King decides to move on.

Or, to put it another way, who knows? It'll be up to the coaches and Zach.

I'm extremly proud of Zack Pyron and proud to have him as a YJ, but given no injuries to either ZP or Philo, ZP is not going to beat out Philo IMO.
Believe he gets his diploma soon, I would expect him to leave and play somewhere he can have an opportunity to showcase his heart and talents. I would be interested in keeping up with his progress wherever he lands.

I don’t know that we know this. ZP might surprise folks. He’s a good QB.

Zach Pyron is a good QB, and one of the best GT QB recruits ever. No doubt in my mind he would be a starter for many P4 schools around the country, and would be our starter had Haynes King not come to town. Unfortunately for Pyron, his injuries have kept him off the field and he never really got a chance to establish himself as a QB1. He played a good game on short notice against one of the best defenses in the country in ND, and clearly was injured again for the VT game. I don’t know what the answer is for Pyron, but I don’t want to see him go or switch positions. Having a capable backup is massive for depth purposes, and I still think he would have a shot to win the job once King moves on.

I do think there may be some merit in using Pyron as sort of a hybrid Wildcat-Joker type player like how the Saints use Taysom Hill. Hill is listed at 6’2” 220, and Pyron is listed at 6’3” 220, so the build is there but Pyron would need to learn how to block to be truly effective. Hill can line up in any skill position on any given down and distance, and his presence on the field is enough to force defenses to account for him and the different looks he can provide. Hill averages roughly 5 carries, 1 receiving target, and 1 pass attempt per game, while also playing special teams. When he is on the field for a punt, the opposing team cannot get comfortable as a fake could come at anytime. I know Pyron has covered at least 1 punt this year and maybe more, having him on special teams opens the door for many different looks.

I don’t know if it would be possible to get as much production out of Pyron as a hybrid player as the Saints do with Hill, but I do know it would be fun to watch.

We owe a lot of our redzone efficiency to Zach punching it in on many short goal-to-go situations this year. Dude is tough as nails and a great athlete.

I hope we can continue to find ways to utilize him and show off his strengths, but I'd also understand if he reads the QB room and decides he's got to make a decision that's best for himself in the long run. Only he knows what that decision is, whether it's a position change or transfer or something else.
