Why ACC revenues trail others

Why are ACC schools trailing so much in total revenue?

Is it in the ticket sales? Not really.
ACC teams aren't among the top in ticket sales, but many of them can hang with the likes of Georgia, Wisconsin, Michigan State and Florida.

The average ticket sales for the top 60 teams is $22.8M; the ACC average (for the public schools) is $20.8M -- a difference of only $2M.

Is it in the donations? No again.
There are a couple of top 10 teams in the donations category, and several ACC schools do well here.

The average donations for the top 60 teams is $25.5M; the ACC average (for the public schools) is $25.5M -- ACC teams are slightly ahead of the average, in fact.

No, it's the rights and licensing!
The average rights and licensing revenue for the top 60 teams is $46.6M; the ACC average (for the public schools) is $37.7M -- an $8.9M gap!

The crazy part....
Auburn gets about $24 million more than Clemson.
Kentucky gets $31 million more than Louisville.
That's CRAZY!

Keep in mind that a big chunk of this is TV revenue, though there is some radio, apparel, etc. mixed in as well. The ACC Network should make up most of the average gap; individual schools will need to negotiate better-paying apparel deals, etc. on their own.

Where did GT rank in the ACC schools in that list?

Last in the ACC in ticket sales. Last in the ACC in donations. Last in the ACC in licensing. In the bottom 13 of 60 FBS schools listed in all three of those categories. GT has an $11M gap in ticket sales, $14M gap in donations, and $11M gap in licensing. Those are all things that fans have a large impact on. Fans have a 100% impact on ticket sales and donations.

Sounds like it may be time for GT football to string three seasons of No less than 8 wins together... Might see more ticket sales, more donations and an increase in merchandise sales which will help with the licensing gap "look in" 2021

There's only 8 ACC teams on those tables. No Duke, no Pitt, no BC, etc. I don't think we're last--we're in the middle of the ACC in most places I've looked. Surprised we came in behind UVA in ticket sales, but we did have a down year.

Ticket sales are a big reason why. Only Clemson and FSU would be in the top half for attendance in SEC or Big 10 (VT would also fit in top half of big 10). Top isnt as strong, and the bottom is definitely weaker. Being late to the TV confrence deal helped the first TV contracts (Big 10 and Big12 were the first two IIRC) more than the rest of the conferences too.

They only list the schools that release their funding information. The private schools aren't required to. From reporting in past years with more information GT was next to last in the ACC in money spent on football.

In all of the Power 5 conferences there are 13 teams not listed in the full USA Today chart. GT is number 50 of 52 P5 schools listed in overall revenue. As I said before all of those revenue streams are things the fans control. If us fans want GT to not be 3rd from last we need to buy more tickets, donate more money, and buy more gear.

Many great points made with one, imo, exception.

That is money donations.

We need to donate Less money - to any NON athletic entity at GT. No to endowments, No to Roll Call. No to ALL of that side of GT.

Until the school and the alumni assn. start treating our Athletic Assn. with the same consideration that our opponents treat their AAs.

Too many on the Hill treat our AA like the red headed stepchild UNTIL they want free tickets to an Orange Bowl or Final Four. Then they think they deserve priority over long time fans having bought tickets and given money forever.

And if some P.O.S. prof ever again makes a comment about not wanting any of our wonderful S/As "infecting" (or whatever words he said) his class - that SOB should be horseshipped on Peachtree St to within an inch of their worthless existence.

No money donations to the school, only to GTAA, until they take notice.

I beelieve what you'll find is that our actual amount given per fan is probably higher than most of your power 5 schools. The solution is to recruit more fans. We just need to figure out how to do that.
