Under Gailey, we had NO offensive style. He did try to run an NFL offense. It was ALL about taking NO chances, playing it safe, who cares if you're predictable...just don't turn the ball over. He totally relied on defense to win, and our offense gave them NO help that I can recall (by and large).

Ironically we did have a rather unique scheme reggies freshman year. But it lead to a higher turnover rate. Basically we ran this proto spread system with pre-snap RPOs in it. (which is basically a variation of an air coryell vertical offense which is a professional offense). But took advantage of reggie's run threat. We shifted to a pure air coryell down the line relying almost entirely on deep shots and play action with an inside run game. (its why reggie had a very low completion percentage most of the time we were asking him to throw 20+ yards down field on most route concepts.)

So it wasn't that we didn't have an offensive style. It was about running to setup the pass and if the run didn't work play it safe and punt if you were in + take shots on play action towards the endzone and kick a field goal.
