What on earth are we doing!

I’ve been waiting to say this to get a good sample size but CDS seems like a really bad coach. I mean what does he bring to the team? He seems not to care too and just took this job for the money. In college you need to be able to develop and motivate your players to greatness. He just seems to go through the motions.

That is a sorry basketball team. No excuse for no defense, no hustle. About 300th in nation in shooting percentage allowed inside the arc. About 300th in country in defensive rebounds. And then we quit.

Stoudamire needs to get his team ready to play. Can’t identify his best players? That’s what practice is for. That was flat out embarrassing. We face #25 Miss St next.

Wow! This is embarrassing. I was initially impressed with our recruiting reasonable bigs and the 3 point specialists along with good point guards. But what we have seen is utter confusion. Our 3 pointers can’t hit threes. Our bigs are non existent. We are about to start ACC play with no game plan. It is shocking!

I was worried when we hired CDS. Just didn’t see what translated to him being an ACC head coach. Now I’m beyond worried. Such horrible basketball. I hope I’m wrong but I think he’s going to be a big bust.

GTFOH. This guy is an NBA coach. This guy teaches professional NBA players how to play the game successfully.

This is an institutional problem. Builda ****ing chess club. We struck gold once with the SHW, it’s obviously not sustainable. At some point you lose enough to accept the fact that you are a loser. Yeah a 10 seed is gonna happen ever 25 years but WGAF.

What’s frustrating is that I actually had hope of making the big dance this year with Pastner as coach. Not a sure bet but hopeful and thought it would be his make it or break year. Wasn’t too mad about the firing of CJP and hiring of CDS though a little disappointed as I knew it would probably mean we wouldn’t make the big dance. Liked the transfers CDS got, the excitement on the recruiting trail, and even the assistants he hired. Thought that it wouldn’t be too far of a step back but boy does that look wrong right now. It’s early and I hope CDS will learn from whatever mistakes he’s making, quicker than CJP. But at least CJP would correct the mistakes even if it always seemed to be a little too late.

So that’s what I’m looking at now this season is how good of adjustments and improvements can CDS make. Right now it feels like he’s made a majority of the wrong moves and is sticking to it.

Also Cincinnati is a good team. Remember when we got throttled by unranked Marquette in that tournament last year, then they went on to be a Top 10 team and win the Big East. I see similarities from Cincy - they could definitely be a Top 4 seed come March. Strong defensively, good coaching, and bigs who can score at all levels.

I was not hopeful at all of making the tournament this year. Pastner’s make or break year was the year after he made the tournament. He needed to string together two good years. They didn’t have to be two tournament years, but he just needed to show he could string together two good years, even if he needed to use the portal heavily.
I liked Pastner, but I didn’t see him getting us to the tournament this year or next. It was time for a new coach. I just didn’t think Batt would make two moves in one year

As bad as we look(and I agree, we look terrible), I am not yet ready to insult CDS by comparing him to TFG (aka Collins). Is he failing thus far? Yes. Is he the super savior we all hoped for? No. But he doesn’t yet strike me as being the fraud and disaster that TFG was.
This isn’t a defense of CDS, it is a deep critique of TFG. I just don’t think anyone can be that bad.

You’re not wrong. I did buy into his reasoning on him believing Moses and Jose would be back for another year instead of entering into NBA. I thought Pastner was a fine coach who always learned his mistakes but never could learn to stop making them in the first place. I thought it would be this year to prove that he was right. Again, it wasn’t a sure bet but definitely more hope than what we have right now. Was disappointed to see CJP fired but didn’t totally disagree with the move as he had his chances.

It’s just frustrating to see the product being put on the floor right now. It doesn’t look like there’s a plan at all on either side of the ball. Other than to give CDS guys minutes.

I think mostly he wants to run a pro offense and a pro defense, and he doesn’t have the horses to run it. I don’t know that he even can get that kind of roster.

There are two ways you see somebody trying something that doesn’t work—one, when they’re not smart, and they aren’t picking up that it’s never going to work; the other way is when someone is smart and they’re sure they can make it work.

Maybe Stoudamire should save the advanced stuff for later—he’s trying to teach a bunch of guys from all over to play a full game of NBA-style offense and NBA-style defense. The guys hustle. Maybe we should play a zone defense until we know how to play the offense, and learn one thing at a time.

Oh I so agree...I told my sisters ( whom are Duke fans) we got players from the Transfer Portalet not Portal.....I hope they improve, but I believe, like a lot of people CDS is not the answer. I guess he wanted a freshman crop to mold and develop?? Not sure if he is capable of that-not all former players can be a coach on any level, no sure bet. I did like Ron Hunter as a choice for Tech. He is a solid coach. To your point- Yes, no game plan...running around with effort, but no results. No chemistry at this point (too early to call-I can only hope.)

The team is performing more poorly than I had imagined. But CDS is:
1. Readjusting to the college game as a new coach
2. Trying to mesh 10 players (to the 4 holdovers) who had never played together before and who were not established college players
3. Trying to develop many players and assigning new roles to players (developing Gapare, letting Kelly run the team more, relying on Abram to play the PG even though he looks uncomfortable in the role and maybe better suited as the SG)

I think CDS bit off more than he could chew. It remains to be seen whether CDS can be a good college coach. But I was encourage by the plays of George and Ndongo. I think if he moves Abram to the 2 (so he can focus on scoring and defense) and let George and Sturdivant play the 1, we can instantly improve. Ndongo provides much needed help to the frontline, so there's hope there. (2) and developing players should improve over time. Overall I'm still hopeful we can have a good team, just not as soon as most of us would like.

I’ve watched every game and the only thing that is consistent is change. It’s been constantly different players for every game. Not sure the rhyme or reason. I do know that a couple guys have been out injured but we ran into a buzz saw yesterday. I think they out sized us, out played us and the white dude was just on fire from 3.

Hoping we can find a way to play like them by the end of year. But…damn. That hurt.
