Yeah the opportunistic takeaways by Duke alarm me giving out propensity to out the ball into questionable places.

In the preseason there was a lot of talk about charting all of JS10’s throws and talking about their risk level with him to help him understand where to go and not go with the ball. Hope that intensified this last week. We can’t give duke cheap points because they’ll cash them efficiently.
Yep. Midtown is right. Duke is well coached. They don't leave the ball on the ground much and they make you beat them. Jeff will need his best game for us to win.

I‘m worried that the main difference between the two teams is the quality of QB, duke hasn’t played a quality defense yet though so that Opinion may be skeewed.
I forget his name but Duke's quarterback is a good athlete. Tall, a high school basketball star. Makes very quick decisions. It will be hard to get sacks on him. He runs well but not often. I am concerned that Duke's offensive line will be able to open holes for their two fine running backs and give him time to throw.

My advice for Tech:

Especially Sims, of course. You have to click through, but it's worth it.

I'm not sure we can win this game. It'll probably be close. So we need to heed the advice above. The longer the Puke O is off the field, the better our chances.

Still no expectations for me. Watching to see if there is improvement and if we're seeing any new faces a game at a time.

Prediction time again.

Blue Devils vs. Yellow Jackets
Tobacco Road vs. North Avenue
Bull City vs. Magic City
Ted Roof vs. Ted Roof

Voting is open. What say you?
Not that it matters that much but on College Football News, Pete Fiutak has a weekly prediction column "Top Ten Picks ATS" They are ranked in order of his personal confidence of how they will play out and Tech vs. Duke is actually #1. First time I can recall that happening. He believes that Duke will win handily simply because Tech has to have turnovers to be competitive or so he thinks. One caveat for this "expert". Last week his top ten was 3-7 against the spread so it might not be advisable to bet the farm on Duke or "freaking Duke" as he puts it. IIWII

I think it is a close game into the third quarter. At that point, Sims runs out of bounds before the first down marker and Brent Key goes all Paul Johnson on him, grabbing him by the facemask and questioning his manhood. Sims was expecting a hug and a pat on the back, but realizes this is true coaching and goes out and throws for two touchdowns and runs for two touchdowns, and we win big! 😏😂

Duke doesn't turn the ball over. We will need to be disciplined this game to pull it out. I voted that we lose a close one because I think Dukes offense is a good bit better, but I think we could just as easily win a close one as well if our defense really steps up again. It won't be a blowout either way.
The Def may struggle without .J King .He's played well.

I’m glad that duke has a pulse this year and a good record, hopefully our guys are fully focused on them and aware that they have a real challenge on their hands. Many years when duke sux we tend to sleepwalk into these matchups and play down to them

Tech can win this game. I don't think Dook can beat us good on good. But we can sure as s*** beat ourselves. It's a question of regression vs progression. Was last week a mirage or the beginning of incremental improvements in all phases? We saw this movie under C****, the hope was always false. Haven't seen the Brent Key remake; maybe it has a different ending?

Was the defensive performance a mirage like the UNC game from last year or is it close to the new baseline? Were special teams lucky or did they get fixed that quickly? Can Long figure out how to use Sims effectively, working around his limitations? Is our run game for real? The OL battled really hard against a great DL, even if it wasn't always pretty, are they finally coming together?

I don't know. But I'm excited to see!

Head says a deflating loss. Heart says a convincing win. Wreck em!

"...we tend to sleepwalk into these matchups and play down to them." Historically, that has happened often especially when we have had Duke as a Homecoming opponent. As for the "good record" it is true that they have a good winning percentage but they have played one good team and lost (I am not sure just how good Kansas really is but they looked good against Duke) and they were seconds away from being tied by Northwestern so the record is a bit deceiving.
