We just got kicked out of the stadium

As a 7 foot tall 350+ pound human being, I have an innate sense of the space that I take up, both vertically and horizontality. I have a 3 hour ride each way to every game in ATL, so the last thing I want to do is sit the entire game. I took these 2 pieces of information and bought my season tickets on a top row, where there are no seats behind me. I also alerted the Ticket Office about this and they have graciously given me aisle seats at the Benz.

The last Thursday night game vs NC State when TFG was "coaching" us, my group was gifted Upper West 50 yardline seats. We stood on big plays and 3rd downs and then more and more plays. The "curmudgeons" behind us asked if we could stop standing. I choose to be a decent person and we only stood to cheer AFTER big plays. But, I won't sit in that area again. Not an issue. I could have told them to Frozen Orange, but what good would that have done? Had I been younger, I probably would've just moved, no need to be an a$$ just because you can.

I guess the big point is, just be nice. The sitters money is just as green as the standers and we all want Tech to win. But there are sections that stand for the majority of the game, and my section in 121 is one of those. @Russellm0704 Just take some recommendations on standing sections and buy tickets in one of thoes.

And alert to ALL fans, this has the potential to get worse when all seats will be chair back. Just because of my size, I may give up the tickets depending on the seats, will have to wait and see but I'm not excited about that part of the upcoming renovations.

I am 6' 295#, so I hope they don't try to squeeze in as many seats as possible. Let's go with a slightly wider seat (or much wider seat) and have less seats in each row. I would pay 50% more for 25% more space.

The audacity to think that the only way you can be a good fan and be loud and supportive is to stand the whole game and make others around you conform to your way of watching a game is pure selfishness. There’s a time to stand, but that’s not the entire game.

In my experience, the tone and way you ask people to sit matters a lot. Most folks that stand the whole game are simply unaware that they're blocking other's view. So a polite ask that they consider sitting more is a lot more effective than an annoyed, indirect "hey sit down up there".

At the end of the day, unless you're paying for their seats they have just as much right to stand as you have to sit. It may not be very courteous, but that's a different point. The only times I've ever seen it become a problem is when the sitter doesn't ask or yells their demands out for others to accommodate them.

My brother was in his 50’s when he got cancer, and had played mens league ice hockey up to that time, and I was in my 40’s at the time. He was no curmudgeon. To me, he was legendary.

Please, just a little understanding and less blanket condemnation might help the situation.

You mentioned where you were sitting a handful of times before and when I've remembered I tried to locate you the next game. I always thought you were 3ft tall and had to stand on the bleachers just to see the game. Who'd have guessed you are tall? Next time I'll look for a tall feller.

To all the others- Bobby Dodd has never had an opera perform on Grant Field. We are supposed to be enjoying the celebration of acts of severe violence and unnatural or inhuman demonstrations of extreme skill. You don't do that sitting down unless you can't stand. It was tough last night because when you sat down a cold shiver went down your spine, but well worth it.

Lastly, how many of you know the names of the people sitting around you? If you don't know the 2 or 3 families or groups to your left or right, 2 or 3 rows up or down, etc well you're doing it all wrong. Maybe you'd all get along better if you got to know your fellow fans? Start there. It's a 55k stadium with a lot of different areas. There has to be a section within a section somewhere that people will like your type- stander, sitter, screamer, whiner, complainer, considerate, inconsiderate, moron, dead fish or just plain old *******. They're there somewhere. Hell, there's even sections for loners. Wide open expanses of empty seats yearning for a pair of *** cheeks to make their day.

It may be too late to reverse course on the new stadium, but they should've given students the rest of the north EZ, and turn the crappy seats in the south EZ into a general admission bleachers section with cheap seats. I'm specifically imagining if they sold no-resale tix with 2 beer coupons for $20 if you could prove you're an alumni...

I think moving all students to North EZ is in the cards based on the renderings. The North EZ has bleachers (or safe standing, not sure) but the South EZ was all chairbacks IIRC. I know that doesn't align completely with your idea but I think it's a fantastic idea. I am more likely to watch games on TV when the crowd is rocking and you can feel the energy at home - I am sure I am not the only CFB fan who shares that perspective and we need to offer whatever incentives it takes to fill Bobby Dodd post-renovation.

Sure it does. It mostly just requires getting to know those around you. Our section in the UN was awesome! Never heard a peep from anyone, and never gave any grief to anyone and I was up and down all game.

Oh, there was that young dwag lady, when we were in the UW, who insisted on holding her cardboard sign up over her head and blocking my view constantly. I asked her nicely not to do this, but she insisted and when I grabbed it, lost half of it. Her brother, I guess, whirled around and saw me and my nephew, 6’2” 230 and 6’7” 270 looking back at him. He turned back around. Not that we would have done anything, but it was funny.

Have you ever randomly met any GT athletes/coaches?

Brent Cunningham, Steve Harkey, Brad Bourne, Greg Horne, Smylie Gebhart, Bubba Hoats were all in some Management classes in late '60s/early 70s Later Rick Strom at a Spring game Daniel Hord, have you heard of any/all of those players ? They were 50 years ago, lol :oldman:

I’m not about not standing. After the OP described in more detail what he experienced, I have an issue on how he was treated. If he’s standing up on 3rd and 4th downs on defense, I have no issue with that. There are times to stand and get louder. My only point was not always.

It's always hilarious when this topic comes up to hear a bunch of fat old farts threatening assault over the internet because someone wants to stand.

If I wanted to watch the entire game from a seated position, I'd get club or box tickets, or watch from home (actually, I stand a lot in my living room too).

Without the financial support of those old farts, Tech would be a Division II school.
