We just got kicked out of the stadium

Sorry if I implied that. I remember someone posting in the Duke MBB post game thread last year that they got chastised for standing during a defensive possession of the tied game with a minute to play šŸ¤£. Tech fans are definitely not above making their distaste with standing heard even in the most crucial moments of the game.

Iā€™m not really even loud (maybe I am compared to our average fan) but Iā€™m pretty sure the guy and his son in front of me moved seats/left late in the UNC MBB game last year because I was cheering/making noise to disrupt the offense/urging a defensive stop from our team in a tight game.

Oh no wasn't aimed at you. There's just a few posters that always automatically turn this kind of complaint into a blanket "you must have been standing the entire game".

It's weird that people always assume that someone getting yelled at for standing does it the entire game. I have been going to games since late 90s and have had several occasions where I was lectured about it when I was only standing for punts or third downs.
So just to make sure I understand, you're standing during plays, including some of the most decisive ones. I know there are curmudgeons, but honestly there might be some behind you who can't stand or have difficulty getting up and down and thus can't see those plays. I don't understand the great need to stand during the game. Can't you stay seated and watch just as well? Then everybody can see. It's just a matter of common courtesy. I love to stand, which is why I always get up to the tip top of the stadium - nobody behind me.

Yes, as do thousands of others in the stands. If you watch any big game tons of people stand for third downs. Hell the PA used to practically beg people to. It's not weird behavior to stand for third downs. GT has always been extremely odd about this compared to most schools.

I should've added I'm referring to defensive third downs for us.

Keyword is continuous. A lot of times it is not continuous, and curmudgeons just wanna whine.
My brother was in his 50ā€™s when he got cancer, and had played mens league ice hockey up to that time, and I was in my 40ā€™s at the time. He was no curmudgeon. To me, he was legendary.

Please, just a little understanding and less blanket condemnation might help the situation.

Realize that it's not all about you. Others have the right to enjoy the game too. Standing the whole time isn't your right. Find an area that stand and join them.

I honestly believe there should be specific areas designated as standing only. There's a way EVERYONE should be able to enjoy their BDS experience.

(this is not a criticism for you wanting to stand)
Lame take. How is it your right to sit the whole time, and it's not theirs to stand. Maybe go watch golf if football is too intense.

Read the stadium rules. Lame is actually calling someone else's opinion lame. Please show me where I said it was my right to sit the whole game? That's right, you can't. Now that's lame.

It's always hilarious when this topic comes up to hear a bunch of fat old farts threatening assault over the internet because someone wants to stand.

If I wanted to watch the entire game from a seated position, I'd get club or box tickets, or watch from home (actually, I stand a lot in my living room too).

That sucks, but Iā€™m not at all surprised that people told you to sit down. In fact, thatā€™s almost a guarantee at a tech game. I am a little surprised that security made you leave.
I wonder if those same people were themselves standing during the final 5-6 minutes of the game. During the FG attempt. Sounds petty to go to security over standing in the first half. It is a football game after all.

As a 7 foot tall 350+ pound human being, I have an innate sense of the space that I take up, both vertically and horizontality. I have a 3 hour ride each way to every game in ATL, so the last thing I want to do is sit the entire game. I took these 2 pieces of information and bought my season tickets on a top row, where there are no seats behind me. I also alerted the Ticket Office about this and they have graciously given me aisle seats at the Benz.

The last Thursday night game vs NC State when TFG was "coaching" us, my group was gifted Upper West 50 yardline seats. We stood on big plays and 3rd downs and then more and more plays. The "curmudgeons" behind us asked if we could stop standing. I choose to be a decent person and we only stood to cheer AFTER big plays. But, I won't sit in that area again. Not an issue. I could have told them to Frozen Orange, but what good would that have done? Had I been younger, I probably would've just moved, no need to be an a$$ just because you can.

I guess the big point is, just be nice. The sitters money is just as green as the standers and we all want Tech to win. But there are sections that stand for the majority of the game, and my section in 121 is one of those. @Russellm0704 Just take some recommendations on standing sections and buy tickets in one of thoes.

And alert to ALL fans, this has the potential to get worse when all seats will be chair back. Just because of my size, I may give up the tickets depending on the seats, will have to wait and see but I'm not excited about that part of the upcoming renovations.

This thread after that win is the most GT thing ever.. we need all the fans we can get, especially loud ones. Went to neyland this year for the UT Florida game, no one sat for 4 straight hours and it was the loudest place Iā€™ve ever been. It was a massive advantage for the vols. Bobby Dodd has been that before and it is what we should strive for, not bitching at folks (especially sidewalk folks) for getting into the game, or wearing blue, or whatever stuck up BS we find to whine about. You want recruits? You want playoffs? Take all the fans we can get, pack the stadium, and be loud.

We do have some lame fans. Not the standing thing, but not making noise, not cheering, not singing. Just sitting there like theyā€™re at Wimbledon.

BUT!!!! They showed up. They braved the traffic and the freezing temps to come watch the Jackets, with only 38ish thousand others.

I think it would be smart to have some ā€œsitting onlyā€ areas for those that canā€™t stand or a ā€œanything goes and donā€™t complainā€ section to stave off some of this.

Appreciate all of the input guys. Maybe I can find some likeminded folks who want to stand up and cheer on defensive 3rd downs and move season tickets to their section. I will share my experience with my ticket rep. To the few guys in here who feel the need to state they want to hit me if they see me at a game, I hope you have a better day. I know those few are in the minority here.
Brother, please donā€™t give up on Tech just because of a few Aholes and security guards, we need you And your family!

Definitely this bold. Have mentioned to Batt a couple times.

I give props to the LE. The last few times Iā€™ve been in that area, including last night in 106, itā€™s been a rowdy bunch.

Iā€™ve never been involved in a physical altercation involving watching a football game but the few times where it escalated close to this, were always with fellow GT ā€˜fansā€™ at Bobby Dodd because of this subject.

You mentioned where you were sitting a handful of times before and when I've remembered I tried to locate you the next game. I always thought you were 3ft tall and had to stand on the bleachers just to see the game. Who'd have guessed you are tall? Next time I'll look for a tall feller.

To all the others- Bobby Dodd has never had an opera perform on Grant Field. We are supposed to be enjoying the celebration of acts of severe violence and unnatural or inhuman demonstrations of extreme skill. You don't do that sitting down unless you can't stand. It was tough last night because when you sat down a cold shiver went down your spine, but well worth it.

Lastly, how many of you know the names of the people sitting around you? If you don't know the 2 or 3 families or groups to your left or right, 2 or 3 rows up or down, etc well you're doing it all wrong. Maybe you'd all get along better if you got to know your fellow fans? Start there. It's a 55k stadium with a lot of different areas. There has to be a section within a section somewhere that people will like your type- stander, sitter, screamer, whiner, complainer, considerate, inconsiderate, moron, dead fish or just plain old *******. They're there somewhere. Hell, there's even sections for loners. Wide open expanses of empty seats yearning for a pair of *** cheeks to make their day.

Go Jackets!

Yep. Literally because I wouldnā€™t sit down.

We go to every game. Bring my kid to most games. Hard to be excited going forward

north end zone. Happened with 3 to 4 min left in 1st half. Security told us we have to leave for standing up.
So you stand the whole game?

Thatā€™s ridiculous if so. Why donā€™t you have the ability to be considerate of others around you?

Only eclipsed by when the defense has momentum and takes the field to a cheering lower west and student section IMO.

San Diego St has a very proud basketball culture and Iā€™ve heard they got rid of their general admission ā€œsupportersā€ section adjacent to the students (who are colloquially known as ā€œThe Showā€) this season. The section was responsible for showing new students traditions and linked alumni to current students. Their alumni say the atmosphere and energy in Viejas has completely fallen off due to this new policy and they even have petitions forming around reinstating it.

Anyway, all this to say that GTAA needs to have a ā€œyouā€™re not a student (anymore) but still a passionate fanā€ section. They want TV revenue, big crowds, and successful teams - time to start making hard but healthy long term decisions that prove that.
It may be too late to reverse course on the new stadium, but they should've given students the rest of the north EZ, and turn the crappy seats in the south EZ into a general admission bleachers section with cheap seats. I'm specifically imagining if they sold no-resale tix with 2 beer coupons for $20 if you could prove you're an alumni...
