It's probably that they're just coached to see the OG as their primary read key, so they aren't even looking at the motion first. They're just following the pulling OG to the play.

Wait, you are saying that the BC defenders may actually be evidencing eye-discipline and may not just be more talented?

They got duped on a counter on the second to last drive. Longestdays broke it down on film. But it's safe to say they are disciplined and talented, the two are not mutually exclusive.

Sorry for the post spam, posting these images from an iPad is a little tedious. After looking at these again, he's scraping to the field, and Devine ends up on that side of the play all 3 times. The field side A back is the motion back all 3 times as well, so maybe that's his key? If the field side A goes in motion, just scrape to the field? Seems like triple to the boundary would clear him out in that case, and maybe it does, I haven't rewatched the whole game. Thanks @Longestday for doing these.

He is reading one of the OG. If the AB on that side goes in motion he reads the the OG on the other side. In our spread formation this gets him play side to take the pitch man for both TO and counter plays. He seemed to be doing this most of the game.

In the second half we went to the trips formation and this messed up that key. He either ran himself out of the play or hesitated and we got a hat on him. That was when we started getting the B-back going (the fumble drive). They were fortunate to get the turnover. So after the turnover the MLB (and really #10 also) started keying on the B-back when we were in the trips formation. On the one counter play we hit (Longestday talks about it in the other thread) we were in the trips formation, the B-back took one hard step left and that got both backers going that way and the play went back right.

Ya, would you ever key on motion + GCG? GCG alone gets the mike (this is basically a mike) flowing the right way.

Good question, even if it's rhetorical. Having a way to mess with their read keys with the GCG would be helpful. I would think we have some way to do that ... perhaps a naked boot or quick pitch to the BBack when everyone else is flowing the opposite way ... the passing game can hurt them here - when they all clear out flowing with a pulling OL, it should leave a void for a receiver to be open. And, of course, none of their keys will help them if the dive is gashing them - that's just straight up hat on hat driving them off the ball. The dive + hitting passes are the most fundamental elements for great success in our offense.
