On average it states top NIL earners are making 45k a year. You aren’t leaving a Tech degree for 45k a year or you would have just went pro. This is our advantage in baseball.

The $10M rosters are just now hitting basketball. Next year or the year after everyone in Top 25 will be there. Won’t be long until baseball is over $1M if it isn’t already with the top teams.

College baseball will replace Single A and Hi A as a destination for top HS players. If not next year, the year after or maybe the year after that, but it will happen.

There are plenty of schools that have better facilities than GT. Off the top of my head: Texas, Arkansas, Kentucky And sadly now Georgia. I personally think our facilities are good but they lack the “wow” factor that recruits experience when they visit. Again, I believe our players have what they need to develop. Unfortunately, this is an extremely competitive landscape. Just to end on a positive note, I will say that GT obviously offers a better academic experience for student athletes.

In today’s landscape (which is admittedly rapidly changing) our recruiting rankings say that our facilities are “good enough”. They aren’t a problem. Look somewhere else. Clearly we need to at least stay where we are. Chair backs and more seating is not a game changer.

A bit of word vomit here, but I've been unplugged for a bit with family stuff.

I spoke to a buddy of mine, a UVA grad, before the series started. He said they had high level starters, but mid-to-low talent in the bullpen. We would likely rake in the later parts of the game. He ended up being dead on - we scored 10 combined runs in the first 6 innings, and 11 in the 7th or later.

This series feels tough, but we were a whisker away from stealing Saturday's game and winning the series. It felt a lot like the VT series, but we didn't land the plane this time.

I'm happy to end the losing streak, and happy to have Schmidt back. I'm also constantly reminding myself it's never as good or as bad as it seems. We will, in all likelihood, be blessed with some postseason baseball.

The next five are more winnable before we close out strong against two good ACC teams. Lots of goals still in front of us. Go jackets.

Earlier today I was about to post something about the craziness of this season.

Preseason - Expectations were to be middlin'
After Cal series - Record was 29-7 (14-4)
...then 0-7.

Nothing really computes for me, now. I have no choice but to stay tuned, I guess.

Really close series with tow games decided by one and one by three. Unfortunately it was a home series loss and we are definitely outside the top 25. No predictions from me other than more chaos. We have the physical talent to be in the CWS: hitting, pitching and defense but just aren't getting it done. Coincidence? Regardless, it was a beautiful weekend in the mountains or elsewhere if you weren't focused on GT baseball. Tadej won today too; 7 wins in the road cycling season already. That is a guy who has the talent and the mental killer instinct.

This belongs in its own thread, but I was projecting a future for college baseball that I frankly think is around the corner. GT typically looks up and sees everyone has moved on & tries to play catch up after it's just about too late.

You only need 10 players you're paying $100k/year to hit $1M. We have 40(?) players now and next year the roster limit is 34 I think. You'd only have to average $30k/spot next year to reach $1M. I have no idea how much or how many players we're paying for, all I'm saying is I'm guessing Vandy/LSU/Tenn, etc aren't already above $1M rosters.

If you guaranteed a top kid $100k/year for 4 years, you're basically at the same comp level as a Top 150 draft slot. You don't drive around on a bus to Lodi/Merced/Stockton/Visalia, eat crap food, etc. You live rent free in a dorm, get fed, go to school, etc. I can envision a roster with a handful of $150-200k/yr kids, 12-15 or so $100-150k kids, and the rest of the roster at around $50-75k. That's about a $4M roster.

What you need to pay for that is a great venue that pulls 3k+/game, decent concessions, etc.

I just don't think this is too far off in the future & some teams my be there next year (Tx, LSU, Tn, etc). Why would you want to play Single A ball if you could go to college for free?

@GT33 I've got to admit that I actually went to the game today . I tried to talk myself out of going but just couldn't resist.
I absolutely love tech baseball, and my kids are with their mom this weekend and I just wanted to be there.
I bought a pass to Champions Hall and was very quiet for most of the game (Extremely unusual for me as I'm a loudmouth Tech fan) until Drew Burress hit the two-run shot in the 9th to tie it and every single Cavalier fan was probably ticked off that I came to the game

I lost my voice when Kent hit the walk off hr in the 10th!

This could very well be the spark this team needs.

Lots of baseball to be played in May and lots of attainable goals ahead for this team.

This was the game of the year for this team. Hope they use it as a rallying point!

To watch those kids celebrate the walkoff was the absolute best feeling. They deserved that moment and I'm so happy they got it!

I still think Kyle isn't all the way back from injury and this team with a healthy Kyle and Kent in the lineup is one of the best lineups in the country. Change my opinion!

He fakes not going to the game & throwing in the towel for the year, sneaks into the game dressed as a normal fan, abandons his normal perch, acts out of character so nobody catches on. All these moves resulted in an amazing catch by Shouse, Lackey was inhuman behind the plate- he could have thrown out Usain Bolt yesterday, Kerce back to normal at 3rd with solid D, Aussie comes out of nowhere to light a fire, Burress shrugged off whatever was ailing him and Schmidt delivers the game winner hitting on 4/5 of a foot.
